Building this shizz

Little update on the build. Hooked it up to my dad's Yamaha HTR-6030 receiver just to hear it a little. Sounds pretty good so far, but I have some tweaking to do. Everytime I try to wire two subs this way 1 / (8 + 8) + 1 / (8 + 8) = 8 ohm, which is 2 DVC 8 ohm subs to get an 8 ohm load, I run into a problem: one sub moves more than the other which I'm assuming means one is getting more power than the other. This happened to me when I tried wiring my 2 Fi's in my car. Any ideas of what I did wrong? I fixed it by trial and error in the car, but I forget what happened. Oh well I'll pry just spend 30 minutes and figure it out tomorrow. I'm also not sure if the 6.5" TB is playing, I'll check voltage when music is playing tomorrow to see what's up.

I'll have more pics later once I start rounding the edges, wood filling, etc...

make sure the wiring looks like this:

Another update... pics to come soon once I start some body work. I fixed the issue with the subs. For some reason I must've not been paying attention and wired them completely screwy. Also the TB did have power. I just glued the top on and clamped it. Ordered a Behringer EP1500, which does 260wRMS x 2 @ 8 ohms. The x-over is rated at approximately 300wRMS, but I figure I won't be needing that much power with the room I'm gonna have this tower in. Plus, once I save a little more cash, I'm going to build another tower to have stereo output instead of mono.

I got the subs working just fine, but thank you anyway good sir. I put on 4 coats of primer... it's starting to look pretty slick. I'll take pics later today on the progress. Tomorrow I'll buy some gloss black, some clear, ~500 grit, and 2000 grit sandpaper.

Alright... here's the pics I promised I would get on here today.

The following pic shows the two dowel rods that have two purposes. These purposes are: to act as bracing and to mount the x-over. I think it looks pretty good, and it holds up really well.

The next two pics are the cabinet primed. I put about 6 aerosol cans of primer on this *****. I also sanded it with 220 grit sand paper. Let me tell you, the primer gunks up the sand paper so many pieces of paper are needed.

I'm making a second one once I get more money. Saving up for college and booze too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Painted about 4 coats of gloss black, and 4 coats of clear. I then wetsanded starting out with 1500 grit, then to 2000 grit. I got it to to look somewhat like the following pics throughout the surface of the box. From these pictures you can see some flaws on the surface, I attempted to sand those out, and got most of it smooth as silk.

Before buffing:

Right after you get done wetsanding you get kinda depressed because you worked so hard painting and clearing to have your "masterpiece" look like a piece of slate. It only takes a little more work to get that brilliant shine. Next I buffed using buffing compound and an electric buffer with a buffing pad. The results are very nice I think.

There you have it. I will post more pics tomorrow once I get it wired, get the ports installed, etc... I might even post a video soon. Until then, don't be a fool, wrap your tool.

Here's 3 more pics of the cabinet with the speakers in. My dad built that tv stand, and the TV is a 52" Sharp LCD, I think it's LC52D92U. Anyways, the cabinet does have some detail flaws to it, probably because I'm not a professional painter, but I must tell you it does look good, and they sound even better. I highly recommend building a set of these if you are curious about it. I'm very impressed on the detail of the TB, and the bass is pronounced. The tweeter is a bit harsh, but turning down the treble will fix that.

Very nice work man
Thanks pal. It seems like I build everything slow, so it took me about a week and a half. I think it's worth it. I'm gonna start building on it's twin soon, but I promised my dad I'd build him the Noah 8's as displayed on PartsExpress.com and one of the small satellite speaker sets on there as well.

and props for a real nice house it looks like to.
Yeah, I don't like bragging about anything, but I will admit my parents did a good job rebuilding the house. My family is by no means rich, and they don't take anything for granted. They work hard as hell, so I think they deserve a lot of credit for the house.
