Building the BEST system

I really apprecaite all your help on the system, but I have a few more questions. I have looked at a lot of the system components ngsm13 sugjested. I like what I have read about the XXX and the Magnum D2 (even though it is on backorder), and I have decided to go sealed enclosure.

I have a few questions?

The first questions I have is if I use the HiFonics BX1500D (1500 watts at 1 ohm) amp to drive the XXX and the US Acoustic 4085 (340 watts) I think I will need a new alternator for my civic, and maybe even a yellow top battery. Is this true? If so where do I get the alternator, how many amps will it need to generate and how much will it cost?

What if I decide to go with the HiFonics BX1000D (1000 watts at 1 ohm) to drive the Magnum D2 which I think gets 500 watts from this amp since it is a 2 ohm sub. Will 850 watts require a new alternator? and a yellow top battery?

I want this system to be for SQ for the most part. Will this sytem do the job or it more or an SPL system.

System Components:

Head Unit: Alpine CDA-7998 $555

Enclosure: SubZone Z-Series 12" Sealed Enclosure $165

Sub: RE XXX 12" $370

Rear Speakers: CDT CL6X $43

Front Speakers: CDT HD62 $200

Amps: HiFonics BX1500D $315

US Acoustics USX4085 $175

Sound Dampening $120

Wires and Connectors $ 250

Total= $2193 (Plus Alternator?, Yellow top?)

Or Different sub and amp

Sub: Magnum D2 $270

Amp: Hifonics BX1000D $239

Total= $2018 (Plus Alternator?, Yellow top?)

Just out of curiosity, what do you think of JL Audio, Focal, and Diamond as far as speakers, subs, and amps?

DO NOT get a subzone box. Look at my previous posts...look through them. I literally gave you everything you need. My configuration gave you wiring, alternator, yellow top, all the needed components and upgrades. again...

http://www.gnomeaudio.com (grat CUSTOM boxes...built to your required specs...Donn has handled boxes for magnums b4 and will do a great job. Better than subzone, AND...cheaper) I would tell him 2 cubes ported after all displacement tuned to 29hz. THIS iwll have excellent sound quality...and have better performance than sealed. Since ur main focus is SQ...look into the magnum...save some money. Unless u NEED the sub right now...then go with the 12XXX.

http://www.excessiveamperage.com ask nate for a quote on a 200 amp alt. It will most likely be near $280...this will cover ur electrical needs. You won't even need a yellow top with this...his alternators are high quality and put out rated amperage...i trust his build quality. other places have cheaper alt....but they are also cheaper/very poor quality.

good on sound deadening...great deal $120 from ANT at secondskin. Front speakers and rear speakers are great...their amp is great. The HU...i mean other than looks...there are NO realy benefits over the 9815 or the 7995. I would go with the 7995 b/c it has no internal amplifier in it...you'll get cleaner sound since u are using separate amps to power ur speakers...and u don't need a HU w/ an internal amplifier. There...go with the 7995 and knock off $255!!! wow, almost go alt paid for.

http://www.weldingsupply.com

order you're need wiring from them. I would say 2 awg for main power to a distro block (from http://www.knukonceptz.com) and then 4awg to sub amp and 8awg to the speaker amp.

All these supplies should cost AT MOST...$150...should be less.

That system will outperform JL, focal, diamond for the price....honestly...if u spent the same amount of money +/- $100 on those brands...you wouldn't get anywhere near as good.

peace, good luck.

why don't you make your own sealed box? sealed boxes are pretty easy to make, but yeah don't get a prefab box. you lay out all that money and get all that good stuff so you might as well built a good box or have someone build it for you. also on an alt. try dominick irragi. his e-mail is Dominick@tds.net. he'll probably want like $335 shipped for the alt. but he has a better warranty then excessiveamperage but try telling him you found it at excessiveamperage for $285 and see if he will match the price. i never tried it before but it's worth a shot.

I have also been looking closely at the Magnum D2 sub but is the Hifonic BX1500d to much to push it or should I pick the BX1000D.
Any good enclosure advice for this sub? Where to buy one or get one made for it? Ported or sealed?
1000 watts will be plenty for the Magnum. You can use 1500 if you want, but you won't need that much power. If you really want to pound your chest in, go ported. If you're concerned about SQ heavily and your space is limited, go sealed.

Have you looked at our 307 components? ...Although they'll require kicks and custom grilles.

I wish I could build my own box, but I do not have any tools and have no experience with that kindof stuff. I also sent dominick another email. I sent one a few day ago and I think it came back undelierable, but I sent another just to check.

Thanks

I will look into getting the box made by Donn when the Magnum D2's come back in stock. So ported is better than sealed for SQ? I guess I just misunderstood. I have been reading that long string of "Ported vs. Sealed" debate and thought that Sealed would be better for SQ and for the size of my trunk, but I trust you. You haven't steared my wrong yet.

As for the alternator I contacted excessive amperage and waiting for a reply. I hope it is low. I contacted http://www.mechman.com/home.html for a quote a couple days ago and he wanted like $535 plus a two other pieces that cost $35 and $50. Not to mention I will have to pay to get it installed. I am glad you gave me another alternative. I also contacted http://www.mean-green.com/ at the same time and have not heard anything.

Thanks again for the advice NG

Yea, the bx1000d will do for the D2 I think. Even though the D2 will only get 500 watts since it is a 2 ohm sub and the bx1000d is a 1000 at 1 ohm.

The only reason I wanted to go sealed is because I thought sealed was better for SQ. It would also be nice to have a little bit of usable trunk space.

What are 307 components?

I just got an e-mail fro Excessive on a HO alternator for 2000 Blazer...

Here it is...

I can custom build you a 200 amp alternator for your 2000 S10 Blazer 4.3L for $280.00 with shipping included. You will need to run 4 guage wire from the alternator to the battery - I can sell the wire to you for $15.00 - up to 7 foot. It will come with gold ring terminals crimped on as well. Let me know if I can help. Thank You for your time and e-mail.
Those other two companys you have listed don't look that good.... The 1st one you have to have your engine at 6000 RPMs to get full output...

(With the Excessive and some others I've seen, you get it a lot lower) I don't want to have to rev to 6K to turn my stereo on...

The mean green place doesn't list enought about their alternators, jsut that it can do up to 300% more.... I wanna see an actual number... When you read their customer testimonies, its on their starters not alternaters.. Same way with their galley of cars.. All Starter customers...

i might have given you the wrong e-mail address. go to sounddomain.com and under electrical explanations look at the thread HO alternators and they have his e-mail and some other places you can check.

The D2 will get 1000 watts from a bx1000d - the Magnum is a dual 2 Ohm subwoofer. Wired in parallel the driver will present a 1 Ohm load.

Here's a link to the components: http://www.stereointegrity.com/components.html

I sent a message to Dominick yesterday and I think the email address you gave me worked. While I haven't got a response yet, I also haven't gotten the email returned to me saying it was not able to be delivered.

I aslo read that thread you sent me info on about HO alternators. Do you happen to know a good battery to keep under your hood after I get an alternator? I've heard yellow top, but I thought they were just to have as an extra battery just to power a system (kept in the trunk).

Thanks

What is "Excessive", a company that sells alternators? Do you have an web address?

I still have yet to even hear anything back from mean green, and the other company just was too expensive. I am still looking and emailing a few places to find the right alternator for my car at the right price.

Thanks
