building box for tacoma truck

btw...I forgot to mention...that the notch on the bottom of the box doesnt actually go all the way to the back of the box...i modified it after this pic so there is air space behind the little notch box in the middle. You are seeing it before I built it up

how big is each side.. the guys picture you posted makes it look like 2 of those sized subs wouldn't fit on one side..?
that box was probably for a 12 or 10...mine will be housing 2 8's. The notch is just a notch in the box to clear a seat bracket.

here is the finished view of that notch...you can see it has air space behind it as well...which differs from the first pic i posted.

scaled.php

the thing of it is, the top channel is dead air space.. that BIG notch will act like a wall for the most part unless you put HUGE 45s and cut into the air space.. the box is not a good design to be ported.. can you do it.. sure but its not going to perform as well as it could.. I would think of 3-4 8s sealed..

Any other thoughts to consider before I continue to work on this and slap on the front panel? I was thinking the only things you had to really worry about when building the boxes was just right amount of airspace (including port, braces, subs, etc)...and the correct port size and length depending on tuning?

If I were to go ahead and port the box how I was thinking...what do you think the outcome would be? just loss of sound quality compared to a different design?

applies to normal boxes squares rectangles..

I think it would sound bad and possibly not load correctly and your subs would just bottom out.. If you insist on porting make the port easy to take out and don't carpet it until you play it.. if you end up hating it redo the panel with the hole and take the port out.. buy another 8 or 2 and cut out the holes in the front then carpet.. if you like it.. paint the port, carpet it, and go..
You were right in your thinking, if you were building a normal box. Odd shaped boxes are a whole different story. Go sealed!
this.. loading, airflow, size, tuning, tuning in relation to size for response, etc etc are all factors..

if I go sealed on this box, it will be alot of airspace unless like you guys know of a amp that will put out around 900rms on a channel? (and down to 1.3 ohm stable)....or an amp that is multi channel (3 or more) and will do 300 rms per channel at 4 ohm.
