Building an amplifier

So, I really enjoy working with car audio and getting really into the game. But now I want to take it one step further and learn how to build my own amplifier. Not anything fancy, just the most basic of basic amplifiers. I have no idea where to start.

Does anyone have a website of detailed instructions on this. That explains all terms etc.

I know what transistors, resistors, capacitors, etc. do but have never worked with them personally.

Has anyone built a homemade amplifier before?

There's plenty of kits out there. Sadly after you're done buying board, schematics, components, and adequate power supply and heat sink you're better off just buying seomething used that's engineered properly.
