So ive been thinking about building a new computer, i know im not gonna have too many problems putting it together, but im gonna need some help picking out the parts i need. And i know there are a lot of computer guys here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

This is just a daily use comp, normal internet, but my mom plans on doing LOTS of photo editing and uploading. We have 3 comps now, but one is slow as hell and the other my brother is on all the time (wow) and the other is a laptop.

We have DSL, (1mb, lol) and its time for a new computer. Our MAX budget i think is around 400, no more, but we'd like to keep it around 300. Ive been searching newegg and have found what i think we need, have i got everything? Do i need a video card too? And how is the quality of all this?

I have an older computer I was about to list on Egay, it's an HP a287x. It would be perfect for normal internet useage, and photo editing programs.

80 GB HDD (Just erased everything and rebooted it)

2600+ Processor (A bit outdated, but you can easily upgrade 2.133 GHZ) Faster computers are now running 3.2GHZ

512 MB Memory (You can upgrade to a 1 GB for really cheap)

Pro Savage DDR with KM266 graphics

14" Flat Screen/Panel LCD Monitor

Burns CD's and play's DVD's (Two separate Drives)

Expansion bay upfront with 4 USB connections.

It's in excellent condition, no scratches, pics are available upon request. I was using it daily until yesterday, as I bought a laptop. Thanx, and let me know.

$300 plus shipping (Maybe about $30? The CPU is a bit heavy) This was one of the top of the line PC's when I bought it, and I paid $800.

These are VERY and EXtreemly important.

Frontside Bus speed (FSB)- the speed flow of the motherboard

memory speed/type RAM

hard drive speed- yes they have different speeds, 7200rpm for example

processor (obiously)

external soundcard- frees up resourses from the motherboard.

Most computer companies sell a pc with fast processor for marketing purpose. not informing the consumer of other important.

For example on car amps

Damping factor

signal to noise ratio

rated power

The easiest for companies to sell a product is to promote and sell an amp is by displaying PEAK power, which in most cases is useless and or worthless.

Got memory?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif________________________

Keyboard

Mouse

Speakers

Monitor
Have it all except the memory.

Dont forget to buy your OS
I know, i planned Xp, but its so **** expensive. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

you need a video card unless you get a motherboard with on board video and the one you have there doesn't have it
Any suggestions on a decent one that has a video and sound card in it already? Do they have such a thing?

Any ideas on memory? Also hows the stuff i picked out?

And how about a combo mobo for

Thanks for the offer, but id really like to do this myself for the experience.
No prob, but I would think that you will definitely need to up your budget a lot more. The OS is going to cost a bit more than I think you have planned for.

id stay away from rosewill, like the mobo, i switched to a gigabyte DS3 when i got my new core2 but I miss my old Asus that i used to have with a athlon 3000+. Definitly try to stay away from shitty memory, try sticking to kingston or OCZ. The case is probably gonna be small, shitty, and tight to work with, Ive never had anything but an Antec, i love them. And as far as an OS goes, I have XP home lying around for 50 shipped if u want it. If u wanna IM me jus PM me ur scn, ill help u out. been building my own comps for 5 years now.
