Building a box using 1/2" MDF? 1000+ watts

I stumbled across some free 1/2" mdf, im looking to build a box for a RE SX which will get around 1300 watts.

Now, i know the 1/2" alone wont be enough, if i re-enforce the inside with some bondo or maybe even some fiberglass would i be good?

and double-ing up all around is not a option.

my other statement would be unclinch you butt cheeks and take $25 to home depot and get a sheet of 3/4. If your going to take the time to build a box, do it right! or is that *** to tight?

well, i have it in 2.0cubic feet as is, i would just like to add a little room, i would only do it if it didn't require any extra money.

the problem with 1/2 mdf is you will have a really hard time screwing the boards together without splitting them. even with glue your surface area is 50% smaller than with 3/4. you can do it, but I would just get some 3/4 mdf or birch.

you need to really think about what your doing if $25 for mdf is goin gto break you. car audio can be had for a bargin, but less than a $25 budget for a box?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

It definitley wont break me, i just dont NEED it and i dont WANT to spend any money. i have a well built box already, just seeing if i could improve on it using 1/2" MDF re-enforced with some fiberglass

always use wood when you can, especially since glass has very little strength in flat areas. filler won't do shit for strength

save your fiberglass for another project, and buy 3/4" mdf.

maybe he just won't screw it then. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'd say go for it, and do a good job bracing.

You'd be really hard pressed to brace it enough to keep it from flexing badly. By the time you added that much bracing, you'd end up with more in materials than that sheet of 3/4" would have cost and the bracing would displaced more that the extra thickness of material. 1/2" is a waste of time for a sub that's going to see any real power.
