Building a box for 2 soundstream t4's

My brother in law has 2 soundstream t4 12s and we just threw them in a sealed box and they sound horrible. We had them in a big slot ported box that someone else made and they were extremely loud on low notes but sounded horrible any other time. So I did some research about the subs and found the correct air space for them. My question is about the port. The square port dimensions for this sub in a ported box is 3.5"x3.5"x6.75". I have never built a box with a square port so im wondering if that is just a 3.5x3.5 square and the port only goes into the box 6.75"? Also, with there being 2 subs can i just double the size of the port or should i build 2 ports or what?
