Magic 3 question

When upgrading the magic 3 is it necessary to actually do all 3? can you add the wire from the alt to pos and then neg to block without having to go from block to chassis? OR if you do go from the block to the chassis does it have to be in the factory location or can I choose my own location? my factory ground strap goes to the back of the block and I dont want to fool with trying to get behind there. Just adding the pos to alt and neg to block and replacing my amp ground really helped out a lot but the amp is still clipping when i turn it up. I found out that my truck basically has an "active" alt and the computer only allows it to work some of the time and im wondering if that may be causing an issue. Because after the sub hits for a little while i can watch the voltage gauge just start dropping and it takes a min for it to start picking back up. almost like the alt is cycling like an ac compressor.

to answer the OP's question, even tho he posted it in the SUBWOOFER forum instead of the correct ELECTRICAL WIRING forum...

Run a wire from any good metal spot on the engine or alternator mount to the frame, it does not have to be in the factory spot.

I know it seemed like a very simple question for you guys who have been doing this for years but I have never had to upgrade any factory wiring like this before so its new to me. And sorry that i posted it in the incorrect subforum

Well.... I did the last wire and it is still clipping. I have a 4gauge power wire, 2 gauge ground, and did the magic 3 with 2 gauge wire. I don't know what else to do. I have a hc600 here on charge that i can try and a powerbass capacitor I can try. I have read mixed opinions on the capacitors so I dont really know what to do. The battery is not mine but the capacitor is. What do you guys suggest i do?
