For a budget home reciever is there a top pic or are they similar? Thinking Sony, Pioneer, Onkyo. $150 to $250

McIntosh. But really, whatever does what you want within budget. Speaker placement is more important.

Can't go wrong with Yamaha. Onkyo makes good stuff too. A lot of the newer stuff has cool stuff like airplay and Bluetooth and even apps for your phone to control the receiver.

Id shoot for an onkyo tx nr646 refurbished off accessories 4less. Dual 32 bit dacs dolby atmos, all modern features, good eq, a lot of clean power, the works. No other reciever comes close in the price range. All in the 350 and under only use either single 32 bit dac and most use 24 bit dacs and arent capable of high end audio processing. Giant fking leap against any other reciever i tried in the 250 range. Nothing even came close to half as good sounding as the nr646.

Its 1000% worth the extra dollars. Mines costed 280, prices change from time to time so just wait out.
