Bridging clarification

Hi,

I just want to ensure that my understanding of amp bridging is correct. I plan on getting the following amp: Pioneer GM-D8604 Class FD 4-Channel Bridgeable Amplifier - Pioneer Amplifier - Amplifiers&Cable | Sound Tech New Zealand.

If I am correct I should be able to bridge 2 channels to get 300w at 4ohm for my sub which is SVC 250w RMS at 4ohm? Does this means I can then run the front speakers off the remaining 2 channels (not bridged) at 100w 4ohm? or when I bridge do 4 channels need to be consolidated down to two channels? This is where my understanding is lacking. I have been told that running a sub and front speakers off a 4 channel amp is not a good idea and the sub will not live to its potential. I actually already have a mono amp for the sub (from a previous vehicle) so its really about choosing a 4 channel amp (for 2 speakers and a sub) or a 2 channel one (for just the speakers).

If I can just bridge the 2 channels for the sub, then what watt range should I then look for in the speakers? Make the most of it and try and get close to 100?

Anything to note about this that I may have missed?

Cheers

Stick to your plan. It will work just fine. Use the first two channels to run the front speakers as normal and bridge the last two channels to drive your sub. This is a common application and will work great. I run a JL XD600/6 like this with the first four channels driving front/rear speakers normally and the last two channels bridged to the sub.

To get the most out of the amp, get 2-ohm/150W or 4-ohm/100W speakers for the front channels and use a 4-ohm sub bridged for the other two (which you already have)

Thanks for the clarification. It really shows just how much you need to get second opinions on the internet. I didn't want the hassle of running two amps either so glad this will work out. Once again cheers for the help!
