ok i just finished this for my gf's silver beetle. a 10 inch MTX 8000 is going in it. cut me some slack, its my first time ever touching fiberglass. i plan to sand it, body fill it, prime, paint (silver), and clear coat it. Also, i'm about to go to home depot to get an electric sander. can any one tell me what grit papers i'm gonna need (and what i'm gonna use them for)? Oh yeah, is it really necessary to sand the primer after i put on the body filler? Thanks.

80/220/400 80 the filler, prime it, then BLOCK IT with 220, and then BLOCK IT with 400....yes electric is quicker, blocking is gunna give u a better outcome though. specially a plastic long block.

what the hells a long block? and what grit do i use to sand the glass before i apply the filler?

Nice for first time glassing. Still have a lot of work left on it though... The edges where the fleece meets the mdf are going to **** to make smooth. Did you rabbet the edge? If not next time rabbet those edges where you fleece to the mdf. Staple and cut it nice before you resin. Its easier that way.

im dremilling them off actually, and i'm carpeting everything but the baffle so it wont really be an issue.

thanks, i just body filled it, i'll post more pics in a couple minutes. the only thing i'm worried about now is the carpet not lining up with the edges exactly.

oh yeah, are the brush marks from the primer gonna show up in the spray paint? i have a spray on primer, but it takes so long to apply.

nevermind, i sand the primer. but how coats of primer should i use. and if i need to use mulitiple primer coates, do i sand with 220 and 400 each time?

here it is body filled. just even though its close to being symetric, i think i'm gonna do a another fill layer again.

bump, i really need to know how many layers of primer to use and wheter or not i need to sand with 220 and 400 grit between layers?

Need a little more work at the sanding... try to smooth those edges. And that is the correct block, but you need to put the sandpaper on the other side (flat side).

its raised, see the extra MDF ring in the pic. it'll show more once i put on the metallic paint. but can anyone answer my question?

hehehe. remember when spraying primer. the first coat you still want to see the filler(light transparent coat)let that flash (between each coat usually 20-25 mins) ,second coat you want to cover the filler, then lay on coat 3 and 4 kinda heavy, but not to heavy(you don't want runs ) then i sand with 400grit, to get out any filler scratches, and primer again. i always wet sand the second primer by hand.

just finished sanding my final layer of Bondo. Lots of work went into this, mostly because i did a layer of primer and competely f**ked up, so i sanded it down and bondoed it again. luckily, my dad is good friends with a body shop owner, and the box will be painted the exact color of my gf's car. comments always welcome.

not so puny for $45,eh?



heres whats powering it, ugly little thing, but hopefully it'll get the job done.
