box pricing

i just got a couple of quotes back for a ported box for a magnum d2 15" and both are over $100. why is this. when i calculate how much it would be to make it it would be only about 30-40 bucks. so do i try and make a box myself or spend the money. thanks alot

Make it yourself, if you take you're time its not difficult at all, and yes it will save you lots of money, people charge for labor.

Not very hard at all if you know something about cutting, measuring, and somewhat about building.

It doesn't cost much to build a box, especially when you buy the materials in bulk. I posted plans for a magnum 15" box a while back. If you'd like to dig them up and use them, I encourage it. If you're unsure of yourself or don't want to risk cutting a finger off, I'd be happy to build it for you, and you can even pay in installments if you'd like.

Building an enclosure yourself can be fun and you will gain some knowledge. You will appreciate it more and it will sound better than pre-fab boxes. Yea you are right, when you calculate building material its about 30-40. but then you have to figure in labor. Thats why you are seeing that 100 and over price. In my opinion, i think you should build your own box. Do a little research and draw everything up on paper and get an idea how you want things to be. Remember, bracing a box is very necessary. If you have any questions, i will do my best to help you out.

LOL, naw i was not referring to your boxes as pre-fab. I was saying if he got one custom built to his speakers, then it will sound better than boxes he just see at tweeter laying on the floor with a forsale sign. No disrespect to you at all.

its not that hard to build. i built my box in 2 weeks and i took my time, its ported also and it sounds pretty good i think its because of the mdf wood it sounds really good with bass

Dont forget you are also paying for the labor. So of course the material is cheap but that person has to be payed also. So, of course builing your own would be the cheapest route. but if lack the knowledge or time, then you cant beat lonerangers price
