Box help for AA Arsenal 12

my brother has a 12" Arsenal in a box i think is 1.6 or 1.8 cubes tuned to like 36-38. cant remember exactly but is somewhere around there. we wanted 2 cubes tuned lower but messed up in the planning part of the build. he wants to get more spl out of this sub. what box should i build to get more out of it. i want to prove that the box is more important than the sub. i was thinking something like 2.5 cubes tuned high 40 maybe.

how big and what tune should i go for to get the most out of the arsenal?

What do want out of this speaker? music or spl? Well this sub is not really geared towards spl so what that box you are running now should near optimal maybe could go a little bigger like 2.5. But even that might not make a difference in output just low end. If it was my sub I would give this box a 2.0 tuned to 30hz for music, its the way to go with this sub.

around 1.5-2 cubes ported to about 30-32hz. anywhere in that range should be ok. and use a good 15-20+ sq inches of port.

well i dont want spl as in competion. but i want to get it as loud as it will get playing music. rap will be the only music played on it. if its in a 1.6 cub box tuned to 37 if i go bigger with a lower tune i know it will play deeper but will i loose output do to the lower tune or will the bigger box make up for a little of that?

also do you think this thing can get as loud as a fi q 12 if the q is in a 2 cube box tuned low on 1000 watts, or is the q on another level?

replied... anybody have any thoughts. im looking for something like 70/30 spl/sq. not a burp box but something that will get the most from the sub and sound ok for a daily driver

I would say the q because of the power handling, mechanical limits and throw. I had the q in 2.0 tuned to 29hz and it was a monster. If you want a good mix between spl/sq I wouldn't tune the aa over 35hz but, for my taste I wouldn't tune anything over 35hz, only if I was aiming for numbers.
