1 12'' type-r vs. 2 JL 13w1v3's

Not to sure if I am posting this in the right forum, but I have a quick question.

I am wondering if a single 12" Alpine type-r in a ported box will be louder/sound better than 2 JL 13w1v3's in a prefab sealed. The amp I'm currently running is a JL slash series 500/1. This will be the amp that I would use on the type-r if I were to get it.

If it makes any difference, the car I have is an 01 monte carlo.

For anyone that has a better suggestion for a sub with a good mix of SQ/SPL in the same price/wattage range, I would really like to hear it.

I was wanting to put them in a ported box but with the sealed it's a pretty tight fit. How big would the box have to be if it was tuned to like 35hz?

I haven't seen any w3's win any spl comps, but the R's sure have won a few.
