OK here is the situation

Stetsom 2k5 2ohm

One Kicker Solo X dual 1

max box size 16t X 18d X 32w

The car peaks at 42hz and is a trunk

I know the solo x like bigger boxes, but in a 3 cu box it will only like to see 1500w or so and the imp rise is pretty stiff. I was looking at going down to a ~2cuft box with 2-4" areoports going through the deck into the car and firing the sub to the rear of the trunk. I am looking for some confimation that I am going in the right direction with this as the way I see it, the imp rise is less with the smaller box, the power handling is better with the smaller, and 2-4inch ports are pretty close to acceptable.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I'm no expert but I would vent the ports into the trunk also, but leave the deck open for the air to transfer. Otherwise face/seal the subs into the cabin with the ports through the deck. I was thinking of something similar recently and thats how I would do it, but have not tried either or heard them yet

I can open up the deck if we go ported. I jsut want to have a double check on my thoughts. I haven't played with the solo X's yet and my programs are doing some odd stuff.

They definitely like bigger boxes. Tuning at 37-38hz will get you a good peak at 42hz.
