ok my hd3 shows up soon and id like to get started on a box this weekend, im basically goin for 4.5ft^3 tuned to 40hz, im goin for a loud daily driver , not a all out fart box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif , basically im not sure on how/were to brace the box, ive heard they can destroy bx's and i wanna make sure this thing is BRACED , im not good at calculating volumes and ports and such but im good on sketchup //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif , my max dimensions are 48wide x 19 tall x 15.75 deep , im goin for sub up port foward and the width at all costs should stay at 48

i will man i need a fricken BOX ! , i **** at math //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif , im good with a saw though:laugh:

remember if you want sub up the sub is 15" and your gonna want as much room to fit it in there. 15.75 will be cutting it close

well you should be able to cram it in there... with all the space you have... minus .75" thickness of wood.. you have about 6.7 cubes - the sub displacement and port displacement.. Can you stretch it farther in any dimension?

thats a nice build... your most likely gonna wanna double baffle the front( i mean the top) which steals a little more space. Still should be fine. I had 2 metal rods in my first box to keep it rigid... maybe an over kill but a good box for its size.

thanks for all the input guys but i got a design that works nicely with my space , i think it will be plenty strong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif its 4.5ft^3 tuned to 40hz with 16in^2 for every 1ft^3 , just like dj and all the guys at DD tell me and everyone else //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif double baffled it only sits at 17" high ....... and i did have to make it 16" deep to fit the sub and even then itll be a tight fit , but because its double baffle im not worried about it ..... building starts in the next couple days......

hmm what iff i replaced the dowel and the support pads with window braces.... would it be stronger ?? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Window brace will be stronger as it ties all the sides together. I'd use 2 of them, roughly dividing the box into 3rd's if you can without interferring with the sub. Also add a 45 in the port corner.

I just changed my box to 35Hz and like it MUCH better. 38Hz was a little boomy on some songs. For rap only 38-40Hz is probably fine, but I listen to a lot of 80's metal, 70's classic rock, old school hip hop, etc... and 35Hz seems to give a flatter response and it's still plenty loud.

You could always build it at 40Hz and extend the port if needed, but you'll lose some box volume.
