box cu in help....poly fill maybe?

ok fellas so i know this ghetto as hell but its all i have to work with for now. this is a pioneer home theater 6 1/2 ported sub enclosure (original speaker that came with the box can be seen on the back seat in the second pic). the original speaker hole is on the rear of the box i took a piece of mdf and covered the 6.5 inch hole and i punched a 10" hole in the side of it for my sub. the box, if i calculated right should be .54 cubes

manufacture suggests a 1.5 cube ported box.

now it sounds good to me but this is my first system (hence the ghetto)

ive been told it needs some polyfill to help with the little echo'ing effect (this is reverb?) ive read to put .5 foot of poly per 1 foot of air, so i am to put .25 foot of poly in this? is all this correct? any help appreciated thanks.

please dont tell me how gay this setup is, honestly i already know, this is my first car and im just trying to learn audio with this setup. once i learn what im doing and get it all nice then ill take the time to mount it nicely and get a good box and fancy head unit and fancy amp and all that hot jazz

Uhm maybe you should just seal the box up and take out the port entirely to gain a little more space.

i dont actually want to go out and spend any money on material or a new box until i know exactly what i want and how i want it you know. basically just until i learn what im doing.

i considered this, but i was told with the port it is louder than what it will be without the port. and honestly i like the way it is now. my buddy has a comp 12" kicker in a proper sealed box all perfect and everything and idk itf its just his system or if i just dont like the sealed sound.

There's plenty of people on here that can help you out. I agree with liking a ported sound over a sealed sound any day. That enclosure is so far from optimal, though. I wouldn't spend money on polyfil for that box.

If you really wanted to use that box, you shoud have kept the speaker that was already in there and made for the box. Then you could just bypass the mp it came with and use your car amp.

It doesnt really help you learn what your doing when it is that wrong.. If you do some research and go by educated guessing, that is a better way to learn by doing.

luckily i have a friend who has plenty of poly to give to me thats why im considering it. i agree its far from optimal but honestly it doesnt sound bad to me i dont mind it at all and there is the added advantage of being in the cab with out being in the way of anything

i have two 6.5 subs in the front doors and two 6x9s in the rear so another 6.5 i dont think would have done much. at least not compared to this 10.

Subs need the right airspace in a box to have proper output unless they are designed for infinite baffle, in which case your doors would need to be well deadened... Dont waste your time with polly. Do lots of research and then do it right the 1st/second time.

If your box was sealed atleast the airspace would be closer.

they are 6.5's with tweeters they are door speakers, maybe i used the wrong them when i said subs.

i like the ported sound of my box.

I don't think you will see much of a difference if any since it's so far away from recommended specs.

door speakers are made to play down to about 80 hz, whereas a sub should play to 30 or lower. Size of speakersdoesnt reflect how low it will play. Many speakers don't have much output at 80hz or around there. Now subs aren't made to play at 30 or lower. IMO, subs should play 60 hz and below.
