box build for my s10

well the box went under surgery today.... took the bottom off to open the inside and started to lay down layers.

i first started with just a resin layer to make sure the fleece got soaked on both sides and then i built it up so far with two layers of fiberglass and resin. weather took a turn(sun went away) plus i ran out of brushes so stopped at two for now lol.

Well the weather has not been corporating with me the past two days so haven't had a chance to work on the box. I'm hoping tomorrow its better since I work a short shift....if weather is good I will be trying to get the inside layers completed. Fingers crossed.

well not much of an update but i did get two more layers laid for a total of 4 with resin n glass.....reason for only 2 more added today was the first batch of resin i made i didnt make hot enough so it took some time to soak in and dry. before anymore layers go on i need to sand down the last layer on a few spots but nothing crazy. also will say once i am done i will be close to using a whole gallon of resin. i have already gone through a 1 gal jug that was about 3/4 full.... going to pick up another 1/2 gal of resin tomorrow so i can finish up my layers on the weekend and start the fun part.....body work YAY lol

so need an opinion... i will be finishing up the layers on the insides of the box tomorrow giving me a total of 6 layers of resin and glass and then 1 layer of just resin on the inside and on the outside i have 2 layers of resin layed down on the outside of the box, but im in the middle on if i want to lay a layer of resin n glass on the ouside or not....

any opinions if i should or not?

i may just lay some glass down around the ring and the amp shelf and call it a day then start body work.

well weather(high wasnt even 50) wasnt the only thing that slowed down progress on this box today... this afternoon it warmed up to where it was barable outside so i tried to sand the box down to get ready for filler, well my palm sander took a crap on me so i have to go get another one.... i think i might get an orbital sander instead but here is what the box looks like now.

not much different but can see i trimmed off the extra fabric and for the most part trimmed out the speaker holes.

Hell yeah so far everything looks good man. I like it. I also have a 96 gmc sonoma (s10) and I am in the process of building my box and stuff now. Just about ready to start my build log also.

Looks good so far! Still a lot of sanding in your future though! Lol I want to see how this turns out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

beat-down69 thanks for the comments... i will look forward to your build log.

mitch86 thanks as well..... yes there is tone more sanding to go, i just had to stop since it was cold and my palm sander took a dump on me. picking up an orbital sander tomorrow so i can the outside layer knocked down smooth and then start the bondo work for sure then more sanding lol.

thanks NHT.... i learn more and more each time I glass and this is only like my 3rd or 4th attempt. i read up alot before getting the nerve to even attempt my first job which was just an amp rack attached to a fully mdf box. each time i deal with fiberglass i learn more and more tricks.
