Bose Integration Help

Ok...So I took my 2003 Suburban to the local shop and had them put in a Pioneer AVH-3300bt. They were supposed to hook it up w/on-star, bose, chimes..etc... they got it half right but that's another story.

I took it back to them because the chimes were not working and a host of other issues (not that I like the noise I'm juts a a big fan of having things as OEM as possible) and after getting me down there they said it would be another $100...No thanks...it's only $25 on amazon for the module...

So I have come to the conclusion they are TOTALLY iincompetent and I'm going to have to redo the install myself and I'm looking for a bit of direction...It's been about 20 years since I installed a deck, or HU as they are now referred to. Funny thing is I think I paid about $350 for my Sony HU back in the day and the new ones are about the smae price so it seems some things have stayed the same?!

From what I can tell the installer used the PAC OS-2 Bose interface for the install. I'll be hooking up the CM-1 module to it which appears pretty straight forward. So the issues I am having:

1. There is a hiss coming from the speakers. It happens when the engine is on or not and regardless of any source selected. Not too sure what would cause this but it appears as though I need to do a ground loop on the RCA's?

2. Alternator whine coming through OnStar. This I am sure is a ground issue (at least it would be 20 years ago). I'm just not sure what needs to get grounded better..I have heard people running a ground "straight to the battery". Would this mean I need to find the ground wire off the harness and connect it to the battery? Would I be able to run it to the chassis ground instead?

3. Weird electrical things started happening about 2 weeks after the install. I thought it may be that the new unit was draining the battery faster than the alternator could juice it up but now I am thinking I need to take it to the dealer and have the reprogram the Body Control Modules?

Thanks for any help in advance!!

The hissing, the alt whine and recalibration of BCM are all indicators of a pi$$ poor instalation. If your have the manuals to the harness and radio you could try and do it yourself, but I strongly suggest you take it to a reputable shop and have an experienced installer troubleshoot.

this is not necessarily an indication of a poorly done install but more than likely a faulty on-star module which any installer will tell you is more than common so dont be so quick to write off the installer as an idiot when it very well may not be his/her fault. There really isnt much to mess up when installing a radio especially none of the things mentioned so unless he/she is a complete retard (which im not ruling out simply pointing out the other side) this is more than likely a faulty module. Especially considering that there is engine noise during the use of onstar there is nothing to directly wire to onstar so any noise on that is likely being induced by the module itself

Thank you all very much for the replies... So I have been in touch with PAC who said it is more than likely a faulty module (as suggested by the replies) and they sent me an RMA for it but apparently I have to remove it from the vehicle and send it back to them. I finally got some time yesterday to remove/replace with the factory unit and after pulling out the wiring to unhook the stereo I noticed that the PAC module is an OS-2...not an OS-2BOSE! Not sure if this falls into the complete retard category or if it's some ultra-custom method of install...I'm leaning towards the first but I would be inclined to think this is the source of my problems...I basically just got pissed and stuffed everything back into the dash so I'm not sure if the existing wiring was hacked or something (the actual wiring job looks decent) to get this setup to work but I'm thinking of just cutting my losses and ordering an os2-bose off amazon rather that have said retard touch my car again.

My real question at this point is if it's possible that this guy actually f'ed up my entire electrical system with his install...thanks again

Ok... After mfing the installer I feel like a REAL jackass right now. Took it back and the installer and he stood behind his install and went through everything twice and the car was still having the same issues. He put in the stock stereo and was STILL having the same issues... I then hopped into the driver seat to brainstorm and started to realize it was happening while I was getting in and out of the driver seat! The installer wiggled the harness and a gaggle of static came through the speakers! Unhooked the seat harness and presto! Everything came back on and started working... Just an FYI out there to any peeps with the same issues...noe to figure out what is wrong with the seat...thanks to all for the replies
