This statement:
Is true. The "Warm/fuzzy" sound comes from distortion. Tube amplifiers are high distortion. Doesn't mean it sounds bad, but this is true.
So is this statement:
Other than that a lot of the things said in this thread makes me want to puke. But that's normal anytime people start going back and forth arguing about anything to do with SQ. It's just not for me, all the shit sounds the same to my ears. It's hard for an amplifier to sound different than the next amplifier because they use the same parts, same design. This is 99% of the stuff out there. If you want the big dollar amps and you are an SQ kinda guy, look into the brands that are small-time and built here in the US like those Lunar amps. I have never seen one at my shop, but I hear they are well built homebrew type stuff. Probably not the most powerful out there by ANY means, but if you want a "special" amp that is good check those out. I am not familiar with TRU either, I think they are built here too, but not sure. I just know all that stuff is high $$$ and people who own it like it.
Other than that if you want to go with what would normally be considered a good amp, most of the Korean built amps are good and are similar on the inside regardless of what it looks like on the outside. Some companies underrate their amps, others overrate, same parts, different ratings, go figure.... LOL.. Also bewarned the older Korean amps (like Orion 2500D's) are not better than the newer amps, quite the opposite. Most of the older Korean class D amps are junk. The Class AB's are all about the same, the design hasn't changed since early 90's. Other classes of amplifiers out there are G and GH. These are fancy class D's with switching rail voltages as output is increased, really does nothing for your setup, just a neat supposedly more efficient amp design that sounds the same, LOL... Class T, Class X etc is all just bullshit madeup crap, there is only A, AB, B, C, D, G and GH amplifiers out there that I am aware of, none of the crap that comes through my shop claiming to be Class X or Class T is any different than D, G, or GH. I haven't had my coffee yet, I may have left something out....
Older Rockford Fosgate stuff is NOT better than the new, the new stuff is better, don't let these fools tell you stuff they don't know anything about (the inside of an amplifier).
