Blew an ED...need sub suggestions

I've been running two EU700's 6.5" subs for a few months now and I think I just smoked one. The substage when attached to the amp will send it into a short protect but disconnected the amp (and everything else) works fine. I can feel the VC scraping on the motor structure when I push it in.

Anyways, now that those are toast I'm looking for a 6.5 sub replacement:)

Right now the box is 1cube, ported to mid 30's. What I'm thinking I'll do is seal up the ports, cut two more holes, and run 4 tang band 6.5's. Each requires .25 of space sealed so that should work fairly well I think. The power I have to work with is 75x2@4; 150x2@2; or 300x1@4....I would imagine that I would run two in parallel off each channel so each of the 4 gets 75RMS.

The questions I have are....

1)How do you think this will compare to the ported ED setup I was running in terms of SPL and SQ

2)What else should I be looking at in terms of 6.5 subs?

The mpyre 6.5s look pretty powerful but expensive. My friend runs the TBs in a 3 way setup and they sound good. Nice output, decent extension for a small sub.

I love those subs and would like to give them a try but they dont match up to my amp specs. Those need 150rms and are a single 4. The best I can do off that amp is 75rms to each.

I called JL and they said the new 6W3's come out in mid August. They come in a 4 or 8 ohm so i could parallel two for an 8 ohm load to give each 150rms but those little things are going to be $169 each //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif  //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

There's no way I'm paying that....no way

from what I can tell those wont work that well with my amp either, I will be underpowering them at 75rms. Good find though!

Thats an interesting design though. The spider is underneath the magnet. It sort of makes sense though if you think about it. The surround on top and the spider on bottom, that way the two pieces that keep the sub stabilized are on the ends of the centerpiece. Might keep it stable better.

I just the Adire Audio Extremis 6.5's and when I looked them up it seems they have closed their doors for business. When did that happen?
try acoustic-visions.com they had some left. I think teh mpyre may be gone.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

So what do you guys think about my 4 tang bands idea? I would put 2 of them in the holes i have cut already for my ED's and then i would cut two more holes in the middle and add the other two tang bands.
