bigger inline fuse...less volts

Today I received my new amp (hifonics bx1605d) and it came with a 200a inline fuse. I already had a 100a fuse under the hood, but since the new fuse was bigger i put it in, and then hooked up my amp. I noticed that now my cap was readin around 11-12 volts with the car on when before it was running a little over 14.

Is it the bigger fuse that made the voltage go down? I would think it should go up if anything.

It's down cuz the Hifonics is drawing more current than your old Audiobahn. The fuse doesn't draw current...it protects it. I see the Big 3 upgrade in your near future.

edit: 86yota..you posted same time as me... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif lol

I think the problem is your new amp is pullin more than your old amp.
I thought the capacitor showed how much voltage it was receiving from the car?

I had a audiobahn a8000t before and now i have a class D amp so it shouldn't be drawing too much

The cap will display the current voltage of your cars electrical system.

The Audiobahn "says" it can do 800x1 @2ohms so that'd be ~60A. The Hifonics says it can do 1100x1 @2ohms so if it really did that power then youd be sitting at ~79A draw. That's your problem. Do the Big 3 upgrade soon if you can.

The hifonics does 1600 x 1 at 1 ohm, which is how i have it.

Well I just saw that the Bahn was 2ohm rated so I took the 2ohm rating..

I know that Hifonics isnt doing 1600x1 but close enough... so if it really did 1600x1 then it'd be pulling ~115A.

Get some 1/0 for the Big 3 and you could fix it. What size alt do you have jw?

My alternator is 120 i believe.

800 watts from an A/B amp would be about 90 amperes (60% efficient), give or take ...
1600 watts from a class D amp would be about 150 amperes (75% efficient), give or take ...
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif I was just doing the quick guesstimate of 800/14... and 1100/14..I was off yes but still the fact of the matter is his electrical can't handle it.

As asked before - is the 12V with the stereo on along with the car? You never clarified that point. If thats with the amp/radio on loudly, then the responses so far are right on the money, your new amp is drawing a lot more then the audiobahn (no surpirse there)

If this is just with the car on, you have a loose connection somewhere when you changed fuses.

I dont think i noticed or not. I will go check it here in a few minutes. Can I just turn the car on and turn the stereo down or do I need to turn the stereo completely off?
