BIG 3 question?

I need your guy's help to finish my big 3 upgrade. I got the main power lead for the amp and both amp/eng grounds, but I cant see were my lil puny 8ga alternator wire goes, It doesnt run to my bat post I know that. I only have two wires at the pos post, one that goes to the amp and one to the solinoid for the starter, and the solinoid is a 4awg not 8awg. Were would it be hiding? Since I cant fit 0ga in the factory loom anyway can I just disconnect the 8 and run from the positive post on the alt to the pos bat post? Will this work? Were is my factory alt wire going?

The car is an 89 Taurus 3.0 (envey) I sense it haha

It doesn't matter where you're stock positive is going. Just run the new 0 gauge from the battery+ to the alt. In fact you shouldn't even disconnect the stock positive wire.

As for your problem with your stock terminal not being able to fit your 8 gauge, amp wire and the new 0 gauge wire, just go buy a new battery terminal that will fit all 3 wires. They're like $10.

Trace it.....We don't know what vehicle you own. We are not telepathic. And the big 3 does not include the batt to amp.
I figured charging would be pretty genaric. Alternator voltage reg and bat. Its an '89 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 ohv

I just stopped reading because you're expecting me to know the layout of your engine bay with NO pictures. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

To answer your question (I think), regardless of where the wire goes, your NEW wire goes from the battery + to the alternator. Period.

Thats what I figured, I shouldnt have a problem if my volt reg is still hooked up. This would make my big 3 complete right? Btw I already have 0awg bat post clamps I was talking abought tucking the 0awg in the factory wire loom/sheathing/jacket whatever you wana call it. I should leave my factory 8awg hooked up with the 0awg then right?

Thanks for the genuine help Colter

We must have posted at the same time

I know pics would help... I just figured like you said regardless its goingt to run from the pos alt to pos batt. Were itsx running now is a good question. I know its working, as I dont have a charging issue.

always fuse any wire connected to the positive terminal of the battery - that includes the alt to batt positive. why? because it's a wire that is subject to damage and if it shorts then your battery goes boom. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you can run a new wire in parallel to the stock battery - but note that while you're in there it makes sense to trace and inspect the OEM wire, even put a new termination on it.

here is my alt upgrade and big three wiring with detailed pics

also note that if you upgrade to a H.O. alt you may need to upgrade the OEM wire as it becomes a parallel path for current to the battery. that parallel path may become overloaded with the H.O. alt. current doesn't just take the path of least resistance, it takes all paths.
