better then 960mp! plz help

just sold my 960 mp to a friend at work for 380 and was looking to upgrade to something better price range is 400-600 or i might pay more thnx
First question, why did you get rid of the 960?? Were you disappointed in the performance? Are you just looking for something different? Or are you looking for something BETTER as in sound quality.

If you're looking for something different then the Alpine 9835 would be a nice choice. So would the Eclipse 8455 and 8445.

But if you're looking for something to be NOTICEABLY better then none of the aforementioned decks are going to provide you with that. I'm not saying those decks aren't any better than the 960 because they could be. But they're NOT going to be THAT MUCH better if you follow me.

To get NOTICEABLY better SQ out of a deck I would recommend something without an internal amp and great pre outs, maybe a used Clarion 9255 or a Premier P9 or if you can still find one an Eclipse 8053 (Eclipse's best head unit ever in my opinion).

Just my 2 cents. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Being that I owned a p1r, 940, 860 and a few other decks both with and without an internal amp, I don't see how they make a difference in Sq. Then again, I've never used an internal amp with any of those decks so it didn't add or decrease anything from the performance.

Noticeable difference in a 8455 vs. 860 yeah there is a pretty big difference. You've got 13band graphic vs. the 10 band parametric on the 8455 which is a BIG difference.

I guess I wasn't that clear in what I said. But what I actually meant by decks with NO internal amps is that those high end decks are of the highest quality. I didn't mean that NOT having an internal amp was the DIRECT reason for them being higher sound quality but rather INDIRECTLY. Decks without int. amps are also better in every other way. Better RCA output stage, copper plated chassis for better isolation, digital output (in some of them) and the best of parts selection put into them. They do one thing (play cd's) and do that one thing VERY, VERY well. Just like high end home stereo. Everyone knows seperates are better than receivers. Same difference here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I guess I'll agree to disagree with this statement. I mean what are you comparing here? The equalizers or the head units themselves. I was comparing the head units themselves. The 8455's EQ is obviously more flexible but let's say for the sake of argument a person has a car and after setting it up that after using a 13 band eq he has a good response and the 13 band graphic were ok in this sense, and there was NO need for a parametric. Taking this a step further lets say that you use an outboard (trunk mount) equalizer, not much use for the deck's eq in any event. My comparison was sound quality only NOT features. Even if the features help SQ. I mean my P9 has only bass and treble but you wouldn't say the 8455 is a better unit would you. Even if I wasn't using the DEQ-P9 processor. But hey, just my opinion. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
