ive had mine for about 5weeks now and they still smell

if its burning off excess glue, when it gets smelly should i turn it up more and keep it going? lol *dumb question alert*

i meant if amp is rerfurb...

and ~5weeks not 6months...biggggg difference.

my fault

Well, if you're clipping your amplifier... the coil will heat up really quickly.

When subwoofers are first installed, they'll start to smell really easy. But even years down the road... subwoofers can still "smell".... that just means you're either pushing them real hard... or sending a clipped signal. They have to do something with the power, and heat is a by-product. I have an old subwoofer... 3years old... and it'll still smell when pushed hard.

but its not really common with a mag?

but hes only giving 1000watts to the mag? shouldnt it not smell, after the break in period.?
Incorrect. Get out of the n00bx thinking //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

It's just a characteristic of the coil heating up.

ok, sorry for the n00b state of mind. i figure with proper coolin it shouldnt matter

im guessing the gains must not be set right and its leading to clipping

still not up to par on that whole concept though....

i was gonna buy a DMM from wal-mart and do it but everyone said those arent good, and im trying to get big 3 done so i might have to take it easy

well the speakers face inside the car and i mostly always have the rear seats folded down....so it should be easier to smell anything.

could this lead to clipping

gains set with cd with volume i dont know

and then i use my ipod and exceed volume gains were set at...

i think they are set around 27-28 out of 36 but im not sure...thats how loud they turned it up to when i picked up the car.

with ipod i put it on 15 for max...any higher and only the door speakers/tweets get louder seems that subs dont go any higher.

Im going to ask you a question, and by no means am I trying to be a smartass or degrade you in any way.....but how many quality subwoofers have you every owned? or more better queston, how many good subs have you blown before? Because after blowing a few expensive sub you sort of get perspective on what to do and what NOT to do reguarding power, gains and how your subs smell...

Precisely, or just how far you can push them to the limit.
