Better Amp for These Subs?

I'm running two Memphis 15-PR124D's; the older PR 12's. They say they take 250w RMS and 500w peak, and right now I have them running off a Kenwood KAC-7204. They're wired one sub to a channel with the voice coils in parallel so that each channel sees a 2 ohm load. According to Kenwood, the amp produces 250w per channel at 2 ohms, but I have a sinking suspicion the amp is over-rated.

In short, is there a better amp than the Kenwood KAC-7204 for my 2 Memphis 15-PR124D's? I'd like some more output but am not quite ready to buy new subs.

They're in a box I made out of 3/4" MDF. All said and done, the interior volume is approximately 3.5 cubes (one chamber with two subs) ported to 35 hz. I did a lot of research before I built this box; it's not like I'm a complete noob and just slapped some wood together.

Also, with the PR1.1000 d, are you thinking wire down to 1 ohm? That would feed them 500w RMS per, which is double what they're rated at.

they will do just fine off of 500w....really reliable subs

Alright. I bought them from a friend that had them running at 1 ohm off a Lanzar Vibe 286. I got the subs at $100 total from him and he offered the amp at $100 as well but he removed the top panel to expose the inside as part of the aesthetics for his set-up and ended up losing it. He said he had it wired down to 1 ohm (the amp doesn't even seem to be one ohm stable), and the amp claims it puts out some huge numbers at 4 ohms bridged (I think like 2k?). All I know is they sounded a whole lot better in his car than they do in mine, granted he had a Firebird (hatchback) and I have a Charger (though it does have a folding rear seat to let some sound bleed through).

Bump. I'm selling my Kenwood KAC-7204 this weekend for $150. Need something about around $200 if possible but $250 if there's something really good to power them with.

hifonics bxi 610 or 1210 is perfect for them i would be safe and do the 610 it will feed them 300 rms each and about 650 peak.

onlinecarstereo.com has them for 150 shipped. the 610 is the newest and better upgraded model.

yeah having worked at a memphis dealer i will tell you if you put 500watts to each one of those woofers they may last a week.... coil will fry... they are good woofers but thats what they make the M3 series for... if you want memphis get a PR500 ...

Yeah but will the PR500 offer any gain whatsoever over my Kenwood KAC-7204?

Bump. I notice the PR500 and Hifonics BXI 610 (500 and 600 watts RMS respectively) both have 60a fuses, while my Kenwood (500 watts RMS) has a 40a fuse. With a 40a fuse, they Kenwood would be physically impossible of putting out 500w RMS at 12.4 volts, even if it were 100% efficient (which it's certainly not), am I right?

Really my concern is that I have a little bit more power to be feeding the subs. Right now they're getting "500w" total, but who that's just what the amp specs say. I feel like they could even take a little over 250 each, say like 300. If that's the case, then they could be getting around 400 with the capacity to take 600; 200w difference right there. And I could upgrade to a BXI 610 for FREE. (BXI 610 is $150 shipped; I found a buyer for my Kenwood locally for $150).

well sounds like a good deal to me, if you want to stick with all memphis then go PR, but thats a good deal, if you do go Hifonics let me know what you think of it. Ok thanks bro
