Best Buy Installation

I installed at best buy for 4 years and met many very competent installers.

Hell there are 3 Best buy installer nominated for installer of the year..

People on this site love to just type out shit they read with no prior knowledge or experience.

I can guarantee that 50% of best buy installers are better than most of the people here who decide to do it themselves.

Honestly go talk to the installers, and make a logical decision if you think they are competent enough to complete your work.

To say that only 50% of that professional group would be better than this group of hobbyists, is a pretty sad commentary on those "pro's", if you ask me.
I doubt anyone is suggesting all BB or CC installers ****. In my experience, each site generally has one or two knowledgeable people as management, and several lackies.

And, this site tends to focus on more custom installs than BB tends to do. When is the last time you heard of a BB install consisting of fiberglassed door panels, custom kicks or just about anything beyond a h/u install with a metra kit, upgrading stock speakers with same-size speakers in stock locations, and MAYBE a custom made simple box, but usually a pre-fab box tossed in the trunk...?

I disagree, if you go through a read the thread many have said BB and CC installers **** period, which is not true.

Best buy is not allowed to fiberglass, OSHA will not allow.

Why i said only 50% is like you said, they might have a good installer with 3 part timers that can only do head units.

Im just trying to get it out there that there is some very talented people working for either company, there are also the morons but if you let a moron work on your car you are a moron yourself.

Actually, Id venture to say most talented people will tend to get employed at places where OSHA will still allow them to apply their talents. I agree there are some decent installers at some BB's, but lets not get carried away. Ive met plenty of managers of the install dept of BB's that appeared to have just been promoted to the position from the appliance department.
This coming from someone who has been friends with a few BB install managers over the years. Not all bad. But generally speaking, not as much talent and knowledge there as should be.

True, except I made just as much at best buy installing easy shit as i did at cartoys, I like custom work but would much rather install endless headunits for the same pay

Lol... a lot of ignorant people in this thread... and a lot of stupid generalizations.

Most of the shitty work I've repaired has been from mom and pops. A couple places around here do the absolute ugliest alarm/keyless/rem start installs.

Best Buy's prices are almost always cheaper than mom and pops on labor.

They offer lifetime of the vehicle warranty on all labor. They have lifetime warranty on both labor and product for alarm/rem start/keyless. They also offer 4 year service plans on equipment. As far as I know, the longest warranty offered by a mom and pop around here is 3 months... just enough to get yo through one cold *** winter.

Every installer makes mistakes or has bad installs once in a while... even the best.

I have worked for them. I guess it JUST HIT ME. I should give up car audio because I dont know anything about it.. period. Even though Im always on here helping people by sharing my knowledge. Moreover... I just realized im also a community college drop-out(?) that cant even run a power wire.

Some funny stories:

Got a sat radio that a mom and pop supposedly "installed." They didnt even know where to tap for ACC power so they wadded the power transformer up in the fuse panel and ran the wires so it looked hooked up. And they also didnt even have the simple gm and reverse gm adaptors so they wouldnt install his FM direct. Several panels were damaged.

Got a deck hooked up incorrectly by a mom and pop. They attempted to tap the fusebox(ugly) for ACC power. However they tapped a low cureent line and it kept blowing fuses as wel las eventually blowing teh radio somehow. Maybe because they used the wrong WIRE harness in the vehicle. Well ,the saturn harness WILL work if you make it work, but it doesnt integrate wit hthe data system so he now has a constant oil temp, tire pressure and airbag warning readout. His door trigger is damaged somehow.. so ti wont shuit the radio off or prompt door chimes.

But those dont even come close to trumping do it yourself failures.
you run into two things there.

competent people=hard to find

parts=not in stock, use whats on hand because people expect everything to be done within a specific time frame instead of having some patience so the correct things can be ordered.

i can side with some things in that sense, none of which i'd ever do myself, do it right or dont do it at all.

I build my own boxes. Unfortunately at best buy, white collar corporate bullshit and OSHA prevents you from building boxes and doing custom work.

I went through miles of red tape to try to allow them to let me bring in my table saw and other box building tools. They would not allow it... even after I did a complete write-up on potential revenue and margin.

And fiberglass is definitely out the window.

So don't blame that on the installers. It also doesn't mean people at best buy don't have those skill sets.

I had a table saw, router, router table and other various tools in my bay. Even a sign that said I built custom boxes and shiz

Your managers must not like you

No they are just not open to anything with even a slight chance of risk ( buying materials.... saws... waiting area exposed to MDF dust) or anything "outside the books"

i think that there just a few guys in this thread that just seem to really have a negative viewing of mass retail installers and think only small shop installers are good, which totally isnt the case, but to each his own.....tiss tiss

its completely hit or miss....one of the bestbuys here sucks at life and the 2 friends I know that had installs done I had to fix the harness wiring, and then the other best buy is badass and even has a badass ported box for 2 type R's with a sign below saying "WE BUILD CUSTOM BOXES" ...and the ones there, I actually considered one of the 10" boxes just didn't feel like spending $150

It certainly doesn't mean they DO have those skill sets. We could assume they know how to fly a helicopter to, or perform brain surgery. Just because their job doesn't require it doesn't mean they can't, right?

I think you are thinking way too deep into what I posted earlier. Your basically saying I should not think some BB installers can build boxes. Its not really a question because I know many that can.. and also... People should not assume best-buy is full of crappy installers.
