Is the hdtv spec=hdmi your talking about? I dont have hdtv so I am not sure.

Notice the power of the Onkyo is not all channels driven. It is at 2 channels driven.
Only Denon and HK seem to give realistic specs.
really depends on the room, speakers, ect.... but I have never once been starving for power in my setup. heck, out of a 0 - 73 or something volume range, I've never had it over 42.

I still say an Onkyo is pretty solid.

the 605 looks pretty solid, and if it was me, I'd get that one.

Onkyo 605

I grabbed an Onkyo HT-SR800, came with the 505, a 7.1 setup.

HDMI on this unit is only video passthrough, but there's nothing to be gained running audio through HDMI, unless you want to climb aboard the SACD/DVD-A train, which will require more components.

For anything else, Optical has plenty of bandwidth.

Anyway, I'm really happy with the Onkyo unit. It included their auto-EQ/auto-TA sensor, which was a selling point for me.

The one I got was a 'home-theatre in a box' type. If you're going to piece it together, try the Polk R50 and R300, on sale at Fry's for $49 right now. (!) I ordered four.
