Why dont you whip out a DMM and test it on the coils? *DMM = Digital Multimeter

Get back with the resistance the coils are showing!!

Well, when I ran the sub the way it was supposed to be setup it only output 3 ohms when it should be outputting closer to 4. Because of that, I think the sub may be bad.

How was it wired, series or parallel? Also, FYI the actual resistance of the VC isn't going to be exactly 4 or 2 ohms, the listed impedance is generally its nominal impedance whereas the actual DC resistance will be something like 3.4 or 1.8 as an example, my guess is they are rounded up for ease of installation.

If you test the coils, you will figure out what they are rated for, better then random guesses. Plus if they read zero, then you know they are blown!
