I'm am up gradeing to 2 type r 12 with alpine mrx-m240 and 2 componets sets and amp. I have avh-1400 and 2 12in sunvisor monitors and possible 2 more monitors later on. Its going in a f150 reg. cab. Already did big 3 but wanted to know if I should get new battery or 2 and what kind and size to get. Thanks for any help

what kinda batt u got? and if that amps 2k watts (too lazy to look it up) mabey look into a h/o alt with all the stuff dependin on what kinda alt u got now

I'd do a 200a + H/O alt and an upgraded front stage AGM batt around 50-60 ah and call it a day. Add another batt if your voltage drops lower than the batt's natural resting voltage.

Can u mix Match batts. Like that Couse was told if batt. Aren't the same they kill each other without a isolator

Pretty much. If the charge rate of each batt isn't relatively the same, in a short time, the wet cell batt will kill the AGM. Never mixed batts if you don't understand the charge rates.

An ISO would work but then the AGM won't be able to sustain a good charge since the only time it'll be getting charged is when you have the system on. In order for the AGM to last while using the ISO, you'd want to charge the batt with an external charger at least once a week.

But you can easily avert the issue by replacing your stock batt with an AGM. It's easy, its simple, it's a no brainer. I don't know why people want their stock batt so bad when AGM's perform much better.

Will I have to change anything else to put the h/o alt in
I'd make sure that the power wire running to the amp was at least 0 gauge. If the amp has a 4 gauge input, then use a distro block to the amp. I'd also do a run of 0 gauge ground to the amp (distro that if necessary).

EDIT: I should explain this a little better...

Lost of people like to ground the amp somewhere in the rear (b/c most clueless installers suggest that's the best way to ground an amp...probably b/c that's what they were told as well...smh) but really it should be grounded to the front stage battery. In order for the entire electrical system/car audio system to benefit from the Big 3 upgrade, you need to run both pos and neg 0 gauge wires from the front stage batt to the rear amp (or to the extra batt if applicable).
