Battery Use While Car is Running

show me an alt with no voltage drop when the system is actually doing the power it claims....300 amp alt is doing 300 amps at 12.5v MAX rpm
not my point :p Of course if your voltage drops and is still within spec then you will not have issues, but will still make less power than if it did not drop.

P=I V (amps x volts) assuming 100% efficiency if your V drops the current is increased to make the same power.

I believe what damages your alt is high currents which will melt the coils? I know on my ATV stator that is the issue. People tend to throw 50 watt bulbs driven off the stock stator and the windings CAN melt. Alternator should work similar...

what does most of the damage is the alt under use. under the load a higher output alt is under ALOT more stress in conjunction to its stock counterpart. realistically you need an high output alt (the visual differences should lend themselves to the stress/heat) but another issue is when that alt is put on to a worn down battery. which in someways is why i dont like isolators because with key off it drains down 1 battery.

16 v wont charge propper on 14v and 17+v (what a charged 16v battery is) would fry some stuff unless you used the 12v post but then again you would still need a 18v charging system
