im trying to get the most out of my amp-DD M1c rated at 1200w at 12v and 1700w at 14.4v. my battery is stock now and im dropping to 12.8v just before it starts to clip.

would i be better off with 1 good battery under the hood or 2 batteries-one being in the trunk?

thanks for any help

12.8 is all you are going to get without a ho alt
This. But I still would upgrade the batteries/add some just to give yourself a little back up.

OP I would upgrade the battery under the hood with the biggest AGM/deepcycle battery you can fit. I upgraded my stock battery to a batcap 2000 and I gained quite a bit of voltage. You aren't even seeing 1200w right now because of impedance rise, you are probably seeing something closer to like 800w, in which case you don't need to worry too much about beefing up your electrical. But, if you are going to run any sort of system over 1kw, I would upgrade your front battery just for the sake of having a battery that better fits the application. I assume your big 3 is done?

well can you define better fits the application? ive upgraded the battery- to chassis, the + to alt is an all day job on may back hands jambed into places they not supposed to fit. appears to be 4g anyway. Im running a D1.4 in parrelel, so .7ohm figure i may be throwin 1000w at it here and there-maybe a little more.

So the people i see with stock alt and 2 batteries are really just futile attempts to gain power?

If you run a second battery on a system that's already dropping then you will see lower voltages especially after long hard notes your alt is going to struggle to charge both battery's, I would just do the big three even if it's a pita and use a good agm deepcycle up front.
