Battery question

I recently upgraded my audio system and have a few things left to do. So I would like some advice on a few things.

My current audio system:

Power-Aukustic PTID-5800 DVD player

CDT Audio CL-62CF Component set

Set CDT Audio CL-6CF 6.5s

Pioneer GM-6300F (60 x 4)

(2) RE SE12 subwoofers

HiFonics Brutus 1208D for subs (1200W)

I have 2 aug wire running to my battery and eveything grounded nicely as suggested here. Everything works pefectly fine as is, however if I push the volume higher than half way I start to getting battery drain and light dimming.

I will obviously need a bigger battery, but is that it? I'm not made of money and can't drop another $1000 on two high power kinetic batteries and a ho alternator. I don't think I'm pulling enough power to warrant buying all of that. I realize that's the ideal scenerio but I don't plan on upgading my stereo as it's loud enough for me. This is my daily driving vehicle if that plays a factor.

From what I've seen and read I think I could get away with using a yellow top deep cycle battery and proper grounding. But I would like some additional opinions from you guys involving aveage priced brands of anything I will need. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you are asking what is the minimum I can do to get by. If that is your approach, a single HC1200 in the back should do the trick. If you wanted to do it better, an HC1400 would be even better. On top of that, a battery isolator would keep the batteries from draining while the car is of for a few days to a week. If you drive the car daily, you can do without the isolator, but just know that the batteries will not have a full lifespan.

BTW, full list on the HC1200 is $329.00, but you can find it here for under $200. The racing line is the exact same thing as the blue line in case you were worried.

The benefit is that it is closer to your amps and that means higher voltage.

You could simply replace the starting battery up front, but you would see more improvement from the second battery in the rear. The second battery would be much smaller than the one you would need to replace the front one.

All of the major AGM batteries I have ever seen are sealed batteries and no special venting is needed. You only need to be careful with flooded batteries. They need vented.

One other thing of note. I drive a Saturn so the hookups for GM ae on the front. After looking on Kinetics website it appears the contacts are on the top only not on the front. Short of replacing the power cables is there a way around this or do you know of any batteries with the GM front contacts?

i have a gm car and i just got a gm post adapter

I did a quick google of GM post adapters and found the pegs that increase the length of the side mounts.

I used those to hook eveything up, but what I am talking about is that all Kinetic batteries are top post ones not GM side ones. And those have been the ones recommended. So I was wondering if thee wee any goog GM style batteries to use as well.

for amps, you only need to fuse near the battery, because power is only going one way.

With 2 batteries though, the power can go both directions, hence two fuses.

can i keep my stock batt under the hood and put the hc1800 in the trunk and wire it as shown in the picture?

or would i need like a redtop under the hood?

if your stock battery is still in good condition/resting at a decent voltage, you should be fine using the stock up front.

Mix batteries at your own risk. When you have different batteries wired together, they will for sure have a shorter lifespan because of it. If you need more than one battery you should:

a) Use identical batteries, same brand, model, and age.

b) Use a battery isolator to keep them from draining each other.

just hook it up according to the battery, and youll be fine

batts normally last about 5-6 years, you arent gonna find a way to kill it faster than that.l.......

if you are THAT worried about it, get yourself a small battery charger and run a charge on your batteries once every couple of months....
