battery question

i usually just pop the circuit breaker in my boat when i charge them just to be on the safe side. you can pull the fuse out of the 12v lead to your amp to isolate it from the battery when charging it if you feel that is safer to do.

 
You shouldn't have to disconnect anything when you charge it manually...

I assume you're using an external float or rapid charger that clips to the posts? That's parallel to the amp circuit, you don't need to disconnect anything.
