Bored.....
I'm still kind of in awe of this whole thing but here goes:
Tuesday afternoon my father and I were involved in a serious high speed, double roll over, car accident.
We were bringing a load of lumber back from our materials supplier on our 93' Dodge Ram 350 HD Flatbed and I was driving.
30 miles had passed without issue, then we turned on to the highway that leads into town. It's about 10 miles outside of the town, an old 2 lane highway with no shoulders and deep ditches.
I was driving (below the posted limit) and all of a sudden the truck veered sharply to the right and almost went into the ditch. I recovered with some quick steering only to have the truck sharply veer to the left, I recoverd with steering again only to have the truck again veer to the right sharply.
This is where the problem really began.
As the truck veered sharply to the right again, the load of lumber on the truck shifted and drug the rear end of the truck around, causing us to roll the truck twice. Once on the highway, and once into the right ditch.
The truck came to rest on it's wheels, on the outer ditch incline, and facing the opposite direction of which we were traveling.
I was wearing a seatbelt. My Father was not.
My Father was thrown from his position in the front passenger seat into the rear extended cab. My shoulder belt gave way throwing me towards the center, but my lap belt held.
No fires, or fuel leaking.
My Father and I were both concious, and were ok as could be expected.
I managed to get un-buckled and had to kick open the passenger side door, as neither door would open.
Luckily, an off duty paramedic was passing by and he stopped to help.
I was only complaining of sharp pain in my left upper arm, my father was having lower back pain and arm pain from a reconstructive surgery that he had a week earlier.
The paramedic slid down the ditch to help my dad, and I used his phone to call 911.
Shortly after, the ambulance, police, and fire department arrived. Due to the question of potential injuries that my father may have had, they had to use the jaws to get him out of the truck safely.
They immediately put him on a board and in a neck brace and into an ambulance.
I was walking around on scene talking to the paramedics/police and letting them know what happened.
They checked me out, and advised that I be placed on a board and in a neck brace as well.
Skipping ahead...........
We arrived at the hospital and were taken to our ER Rooms, each with a full medical team of Doctors, Nurses, and Trauma Team.
After being looked over, tested, and asked "Does this hurt?" eleventy billion times, umong other questions, the Doctor said I appear to be fine and can be discharged.
My father had the same procedure, except he also had several X-Rays and CT Scans to further determine any injuries. Those all came up clean with no problems. He did have to have some stitches replaced on his arm from the week prior's surgery, but other than that, he just had a few scrapes.
He was also discharged the same night, about 3 hours after I was.
The part I'm in awe of...........
After a double roll over car accident, in which the vehicle sustained over $10,000 in damage--------
My Father and I walked away from the accident virtually un-harmed.
We're both a little sore and stiff today, but that's it.
Now you see where the awe part comes in.
One thing I know for sure.
There is a God, and he had our back.
I have no doubts about that one bit.
Just thought that I would share my experience with everyone.
