Back in the Game, it's been YEARS! What's out there now???

Hello all, well I bought a new car and it's time to re-haul my stereo entirely. I'm out of the loop when it comes to which companies make decent subwoofers now-days.

For reference, I've previously had subwoofers made by Adire Audio, Arc Audio, Acoustic Elegance, TCsounds, Fi, etc. From 4 sealed 12s in my old truck to my current single TC OEM 10 sealed in my Camaro. I now have an SUV and want something in between:

I'm mainly asking which subwoofers are made out there that fit my bill as these companies seem to always come and go. ALL of my systems have been sealed enclosure designs as I'm more into SQ than SPL, but the ONE ported system I had in my truck was actually one of the best sounding systems I've ever had, and always was obviously louder, and that was with some old TC-1000s, which were geared more towards Sealed. So I got the best of both worlds and want to go ported again.

Even though I have an SUV, I value my cargo space greatly. I know that ported enclosures take up more space, but if there are some subwoofers that are specifically made for smaller ported designs, that would be fantastic. Otherwise I'm going to have to go sealed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Requirements:

-$300 budget for each sub.

-I want two 12in subs, so $600 total budget, no more.

-My amp will have 1000w rms for the pair, so each sub needs to handle around 500wrms.

-Subs made for SMALLER ported enclosure design

-Subs, that in a ported design, are more geared towards SQ. If it gets loud like an SQL system, the better, of course.

-I listen to everything, hence the need for SQ. Mostly all sorts of Rock, prog rock, jazz, death metal (double bass), new and old. I also listen to electronica music, dubstep, stuff like Deadmau5, etc, so I'd like for it to sound decently loud for that music, too.

I have no idea what subs are out there for my needs. If you could name brands, models, links to read, etc etc, that would be great. If I'm going to have to go with a larger ported box for this, I might start a new thread since I'll have to go back to sealed designs for space saving.

Sorry that this is so long, but I'm excited to get back in the game!

you will be sorry you sold your old stuff lol

the tc1000's are still around under a different name (tc sounds Epic)

adire has died even the clone subs are gone now

arc is still around but no clue if their subs are worth a **** any more

AE is still around and kicking

I will probably get flamed for this but...

WoofersEtc.com - D312D4.2 - Diamond Audio 400W 12" DVC 4 Ohms Subwoofer

I love those subs for sq/daily

Interesting, I'll look into it. I figured there would be subs out there I never even have heard about. Thanks!

Yeah people said the subs I used to have were very nice during the "peak" of internet brands. Does that mean there's not a lot out there anymore due to the economy and all that?

Thanks for the advice. I'm really looking for some bad *** subs for ported enclosure for some nice SQL. I know Image Dynamics made the IDQ version 3 subs, and were epic SQ for sealed, but how are they ported? I also hear ID is no longer. Too bad because I used to have their 6.5in Chameleon components a while back and they were my favorite comps to this day, even over my current morels.

Thanks for the quick suggestions so far everybody. I'm intrigued by the 12" SSA Dcon's, considering they are geared towards smaller ported designs. My concerns with these subs are that they are entry level models. Will I be disappointed with output? A pair of 12s ported in an SUV should be fine, but for the 5 percent of the time I want to crank some Deadmau5, I don't want to be too limited.

Small enclosures....geared towards sq....$300 each.....500 rms eachJL w6v2 all day!
A little out of my price range //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

They're about 300 each online. Dcon probably best bang for your Buck. But with 300 to spend per sub id choose the w6 over it. But that's just me. My old school w6 has spoiled me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah I totally understand. It does seem like the Dcon is the best bang for the buck and I might just go that route since saving money is always good. I have other priorities in my life now that I didn't have 8 or so years ago, so I have to tell myself that I will never have a system like I used to have back in the day, haha!
