B6 Passat, New Speaker Wire Help

Hey guys,

I've been studying up an upcoming install on my B6 Passat and noticed one potential issue:

VW, in their infinite wisdom, apparently have made it extremely hard to route new speaker wire through the rubber grommet in each door. I was hoping to run new wire straight from my amps in the trunk to the crossovers of a pair of jbl ms62c comps which will be located by the window motor in each door skin.

Anyone with experience able to tell me the best way to make this happen? I read that some people have just given up while others drilled trough part of the rubber grommet. I'm open to suggestions.

I had a B7 A4 and yes there is no room for speaker wire. Just drill holes in the grommet and run wire and then wrap the wire in something to protect it. It won't be the prettiest but will work.

Not so worried about aesthetics for what I affectionately refer to as the "door's armpit," just making sure I don't drill through something important. I have some leftover weatherstripping I'll probably use to wrap wherever I feed the wires through to the door.

Also, since I'll be using MDF blocks to replace the baffle, where can I feed the speaker wire through the inner panel to the crossover?

There are a lot of holes already in the door panels. You should have no problem finding a place to get the wire to go through to your crossover. At least I did not in my A4. I did the same as you replacing the baffles with MDF rings. Turned out well.

Thanks for the help. This is going to end up being my weekend project. The 14ga TCA is solely for running from the amp to xover input. Even so, I still have to deal with running wire from the comp up to the A-pillar along with that TCA back to the amp. Let's hope my drill skills are savvy enough to not mess this up.
