Aux adapter help!

I was wondering if I can run a iPod/USB from the aux on my head unit? Have seen lots of adapters. Is this going to do affect my sound quality in a negative way?

they do make an ipod cable that has the 30pin on one end and USB and 3.5mm on the other. the 3.5mm is audio (pre-headphone amp) and the USB is for 5V power (cig lighter attachment).

i have this cable, i stashed a sig lighter socket in the dash so everything was hidden. works fine and sound quality is direct and as good as the bitrate of the music. they are cheap though, and can physically fail.
