Audio tuning help

My current setup is:

Pioneer x5600bhs HU

Kicker 40css694 front door

Infinity Kappa 60.11cs rear deck

JL 360/4 amp

2 - JL 12w3v3 - 2 ohm

Rockford P1000x2 amp

I would like to know what my HPF should be set at on the HU for front/rear speakers and what my amp settings should be set at for the sub's. I was having an issue prior to setting the HPF where the front speakers would cutout at mid-high volumes. I just need to know what setting this should be at.

Also, I've upgraded to a optima yellow top battery, 1/0 ground cable on it, I have a 4 farad capacitor between the battery and amp and upgraded from a 160amp alternator to a 220amp, yet I still get headlight and dash dimming. I haven't upgraded the alternator ground yet but I'm wondering if it's more related to the Rockford amp settings and if I can better control it there.

Thanks in advance!

The dimming is usually an indication of poor power and/or ground. You mentioned the ground wire size, but what about the power wire size? Fosgate amps are power hungry. Feed them WELL. Just keep in mind your ground size needs to be same size or bigger. Rule of thumb...you can never have too big or too many grounds. Especially from battery to car frame/chassis. Grounds from chassis to motor as well. Ground from the amp should be as short as possible. And even bigger wire than the power. As for tuning, in my experience, 6x9's somewhere in the 120-140hz range. But, if memory serves, your particular set came with its own xovers? As for the infinitys, same thing. The infinitys might even be able to go around 100hz. Amp settings are primarily based on input from the HU. Turning the gain all the way up isnt really the right way. Andnit can at times cause dimming as the amp is working harder than designed. Might not be the case for you. Your HU uses 4v preout voltage, just make sure the HU output and the amp input level are matched.

Thanks for the reply, I'm running 4 gauge on power everywhere else. My amp ground is not far from the amp and the battery ground is short as well. Only weakness is from the alternator to the chassis.

Both my components came with crossovers, so I'll probably set it around 100hz.

I'm a think the HU output and amp input match but I'll verify. What should the hz and gains be set to on there?

Use only one xover. Either on the radio, or the best is to use supplied xovers. Dont use multiple xovers. This means leave the amp on full range, no xover set as well as the hu. As for gain setup, with the hu having 4volt output, gain should be able to be set fairly high. HOWEVER i would seriously go bigger on the power wire. Use quality, multistrand wire. Too many people use cheap wire. Doesnt work. For you setup 0 gauge or even 1/0 power supply using good wire. Ive seen too many systems fail or seriously underproduce because of wiring. Keep in mind too, speaker wiring is a big factor too. Minimum 14 ga should be used. Even for your component speakers. Think of it this way...the wiring is the blood vessels, the lifeline of your system. Your body cannot function right if your blodd vessels are too small, or not made to handle the power. Cheap wire is just that. Cheap. High copper content, low oxygen content, and higher strand count is best.

My alternator doesn't have a ground on my car, only engine block to chassis grounds. Can I just run a 1/0 gauge from anywhere on the engine to chassis to help? All my battery/amp wiring is 2 or 4 gauge except the power from alternator to battery, it steps from 2 to 8 back to 2 gauge. I have a dodge challenger.

I'm looking to add a 2nd battery, XS Power, what size would I need since I already have the optima yellow top?
