At what point would I need to update my electrical system?

I've heard a couple of people say 1,000 watts, but I'm not sure.

I'm looking for a couple of subs that take between 300 - 450 watts each, so that'd be 600 - 900 watts total coming from my amp. Would this be enough to drain my electrical system and make an alternator upgrade necessary?

Also, about how much would a new alternator cost? My truck is a '90 F-150.

Just go ahead and install your system.

Live with it a while and if any annoying problems arise, upgrade the alternator.

Its really that simple.

you shouldn't have problems with an amp that size but you never know. make sure you use proper wire size, and do the big3 and hook everything up and go from there.

i currently am running ~1200 wrms-ish with the big three and 1/0 ga. power and ground...stock alt and crappy battery and only sometimes dip below 14V...
