Yeah, XBL^2 woofers roll-off hard in the upper bass region...

It doesn't have anything to do with the cone. XBL^2 Crushes the BL which ported makes for a peaky driver unless in a huge box. Sealed boxes is where XBL^2 really shines for SQ.
Indeeds...... Lowers that distortion factor but you pay a price for anything that lowers distortion....

pimpdaddyq do you still have all 4 hAvoc 15's? If so I need pics.
I actually sold all 4 of them.. got a lot for them, since I knew that AA was coming out with new stuff, that I might as well get a couple havoc 18s when they come out.. probably only 2 this time though. And a couple 15s for my new daily //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif. I miss them so much though, you still got all yours? How are they?

So, wait a minute... did the XXX 05 and before act just like the Avalanches with the huge rolloff on the uppper stuff? I was convinced this was just with the Avalanches being geared towards a home theatre sub.
Wasnt as bad as the Ava's (higher Fs) but good luck getting them to play flat up to 80Hz+

THe good thing is...subwoofers shoudlnt be playing higher than 80Hz anyway.

Long linear strokes do tend to have appeal in a sealed enclosure. Anyway, according to dan xbl^2 doesn't inhernently lead to any bottom heavy responce. It being used on alot of drivers that arent' bottom heavy, but the companies don't advertize, mostly home and PA gear if I remember right. The latest gen brahmas apparently have very good upper end response, I can't say I've heard one to confirm this though. Anway, I've never cared if my sub played anywhere near 80hz anyway.

Notice I didn't say bottom heavy I said peaky. Avalanches peak low as hell in any decent size enclosure, but brahmas and xxx's tend to peak around 40hz unless in an oversized enclosure...... this is just from personal experience. Atlases peak even higher in recommended enclosures, but its not a hard peak at all Atlases are some of the most flat drivers I've heard ported, in car. You can ask timb2169 about some low end though, he had an avalanche 15 in something rediculous like 5-6 cubes net tuned to 26hz in his car and that thing just tore up sub 35hz notes like nothing I've ever heard in a car. Hell 20hz wasn't even a problem. XBL^2 is definately good for its purpose, but weigh in all of the losses of it too. Honestly look at how huge XXX, Avalanche, and Brahma motors are compared to that of an SX, DP, hAvoc, BL, Mag, Q ect..... and look at the higher motor strength of the conventional motors. Not to mention that all of those drivers sound great.

pimpdaddyq - All of mine are just loving the beating they get. I've switched a couple of times between two and four. I have a 10 cube box to 31 for two that just dominates the low end and a 12 cube 32 hz box for four that is just louder then shit.....were talkin' 150's with 2500 watts. I'll eventually build a new box for four that is 16-17 cubes to 32 with 220sqin of port area. I'm gunna have two drivers and the port firing back with two drivers inverted firing up. I think that will be the perfect setup for my vehicle. I'll be sure to post some pics when I get it all done.
