Ascendant Audio News

The Avalanchess peaking in the lower octaves can be easily explained by observing its thiele small parameters. The Avalanches had extremely low resonant frequencies (15.7hz for the 18 and 15hz for the 15) which is insurmountably lower than the multitude of offerings available to the car audio market. This absurdly low Fs (albeit perfectly comfortable in the home theater environment) boosts the low end driving efficiency up in that region.

FYI

The soundsplinter RLP15 has a 27hz Fs, the Fi Q15 has a 26hz Fs, the Mach5 18 has a ~30hz Fs. These are all roughly an octave higher than the Avalanches:eek:

Avalanche used (1) 220 magnet, Havocs used (2) 190s...

Fs doesnt inherently have anything to do with bottom octave performance. There are many other factors to it than that. I can swap suspension on a Q to have a MUCH lower Fs, but at the end of the day it will perform similar to the standard Q... just not have as much mechanical power handling in some situations. Same token, a fully loaded BTL can drop low too... with an Fs hovering in the mid/upper 40s before break in and mid to high 30s after.

I realize there are several other factors that deal with bottom octave performance, such as the Qtc of the enclosure and accumulative displacement playing the biggest role. I was just mentioning that Avalanches peak lower vs most car audio subs, and the biggest factor that seperates a style of sub (such as the avalanche) from car audio subs is its Fs.

Sorry if I wasnt thorough enough, I didnt want to write a 1 page post lol

Fsis free air resonance. This is the point at which impedance is the highest free air.

Ok, I have a pair of 18 inch HaVocs, and pair of 18 inch Avalanches. The HaVocs have larger motors.
Havoc motors are 3.5" tall and 7.5" wide while Avalanche motors are 3.5" tall and 9" wide. Havocs are just double stack which doesn't mean much. they weigh about the same..... not worth arguing over.

yeah but is Scott able to answer Answer for AA's share. Kind of want to call Chad because he can go on with what hes doing next for hours. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
