Are these guys ripping me off?

I just got quoted a whopping $312 for a rear brake job. They're going to replace the pads and rotors. I was quoted ~$59 for the pads, $68 per rotor, and the rest is labor. Are they ripping me off? What would be a fair price? Car mechanics and fair prices don't seem to go hand in hand.

195 for their parts.... so little over 100 for labour...

are you getting ripped off? yes kinda

not much you can do if youcannot do it yourself or have a friend thta will do it... or a hillbilly to do it for a case of beer.

the only thing thoguh si the labour part. if they are good parts that is rpetty much what they are worth.

that does seem alittle high.

Look like they are charging you 2 hours labor at 50 some dollar an hour.

You could save your self some money and do it youself.

it will only take about 2 hours tops if you dont know what you are doin.

I just did a car for my buddy the other day and took an hour maby alittle more but not much. and we did front rotors and pads and rear shoes and drums.

do it your self, it should not be that hard, im thinking their disc brakes so it should be easier than drums. hop on the accord forums and you'll find the shop manual for your accord.

go to the parts store and buy the haynes manual for your car. it costs $15 and is the best thing you can own for your car. step by step instructions on how to do it.

That quote sounds about right or just barely slightly high..
nothing to feel bad about...

Simple job not for someone with zero experience but any shop can do it so shop around..
I agree.

Dallas is $90-$100/hr and the parts are usually higher from those places. They dont buy autozone parts 99% of the time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you dont know what you are doing...have a professional do it. Other wise you can save ~$100-$125 by doing it yourself.

Or ask anyone you know who live's close or perhaps your pops as most of the time dad's know something about cars, at least brakes. Look online for your parts if you can wait like 4-5 days. I mean just a quick search on rotor's for your car on some site's you can find performance rotors for 61.95 a piece and some brembo sport one's for 136 a pair with free shipping. Now on the pads, you can get em' for 55-62 again with free shipping and are probably better pads then they'd sell you. Throw on top you pay tax in person i'd look online and see if someone can do it for you.

You really need to call like 3-4 places man. Hell I'd do it for $50 if you bought the parts. It's a little intimidating to do it yourself, but not all that difficult.

Heh. Makes me feel good about paying $25 per rotor and $50 for pads. Total job was $150 and change. You should be able to do this job yourself, though. Try rockauto.com and see if you can't find a better deal for parts.

around here, its anywhere to 60-80 an hour for labor, depending on which shop u go to...u also have to remember that they have to import the parts for ur car bc its a honda (advantage to having a domestic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif )
