Are my subs blown?

voltage drop is due to the amount of amps being pulled from your battery while your alternator cannot produce enough amps to keep a steady voltage reading, which makes it drop. also a capacitor is worthless, better off throwing it in the garbage. and why don't you let your vehicle warm up first. let the fluids reach operating temperature.

also adding, you might just want to wait and see what else you can find, and learn alittle before you go buying stuff...i know its sweet at first, but you'll regret it, i've been saving\ spending for my system for the past 3 months now... around 1,500$.

My vehicle had been running for a good 20 minutes already. I was just about home at the time it blew out. Also, im a bit worried about the fluid temps because my thermostat must be blown out ( my heat gauge is constantly below C). So your saying the sub need more power then the battery could apply so it blew out? So would having a 40A fuse in the 30A slot help contribute to this at all?

Sorry for all the questions i just wanna find out why these subs blew out before i put new ones in.

you dont necessarily need two subs.. especially in an eclipse. one good sub would be plenty. but yeah, good idea on checking to find the real problem before investing in new equipment.

well first off, you blew out your thermostat, you wouldn't get any head, and your car would drive shitty, everything would be outa wack. get that replaced. also you said 40 amp fuse in a 30amp slot? take it out and put the rated 30 in.... they are marked for a reason... and voltage drop is caused from the amp. not the subs. the amp is doing anything electrical, the subs are just asking for an amount.

Yeah I didn't put that in there, i bought the system used and the guy who had it before me had that in there for some reason and i never thought to check that when i installed it. Anyways, does that mean the fuse had nothing to do with it? Blah, im back to square one. Any other ideas what i can do to make sure the next subs dont blow out?

I think the ground looks pretty good. It is clamped onto a bold on the frame of the car pretty good.
Your car doesn't have a frame?? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Your amp should be grounded out to the body of your car within 2 ft or so from the amp. I use a grinder and grind the paint away where i'm going to mount my ground wire and then screw it into the body on the bare metal. I actually just did this to my brand new truck last weekend. What size of wire are you using from your battery back to your amp? 4 gauge 8 guage? How shitty is your battery and how big is your alternator? Was the gain turned way up along with the bass boost? Could be so many things really at this point. I would not go buying new stuff until you figure out what your real problem is first like others have said.

I'm pretty confident the ground is good. I used a 4 gauge cable to hook up the power. Not really sure on the size of my alternater. The battery is in pretty good shape and has never died on me (except when i left the lights on that noe time). Its got about 110k miles on it. The car is a 98 eclipse RS if that makes any difference.

For the time being to test the situation i put one of my speakers from the stereo in my room into my car. I think its only 300 watts. It has a speaker up to and a sub down below. Anways i stuck that thing in and it works. But if i turn my volume up my dome and dash lights begin to flash again. I dont get it... i'm only powering a 300 wat sub. Is it probably my alternator or battery? I cant think of anything else. My ground is on the body of the car snug and it's hooked up to my battery correctly.

Also, i just looked up my alternator. It says it's 75A. Is that enough to power a 1000W amp?

your amp is prolly 300 or 400rms. And what do you mean the lights flash? You talking about dimming? If the lights dim, its time for a new alt, 75 amps is really low for any amp. And for the subs, you can tell if they are blown if you push in the sub and its locked and wont move.

Yeah the dome and dash lights flicker on bass hits. Think installing a capacitor would help out on this?
Not at all, in fact will make it worse. You can't fix a crappy alternator by putting another power robbing device on your electrical system. Capacitors are junk and a wasted of money. You should be looking into getting your alternator tested and your battery while your at it and probably doing the big 3 upgrade at the same time.

I duno my friend had the same problem and he said he fixed it by installing a capacitor. I don't see how it would hurt anything. My lights dim only on big bass hits so i dont see what storing a little power when there is some being unused and using it towards those bass hits can hurt.
