Are my subs blown?

Christ. Everyone has a first setup. I'm sure he knows it was shitty now, after it blew. Yes it's horrible, but 300 for a deck, amp, 2 subs, and box. Isn't to bad. I've seen worse. ha
I got a good deal on my stuff; $380 for a Pioneer DEH-P6900UB, 2-10" JBL 250-RMS subs (I need to upgrade D: ), and a Boss 1200M (300x2 @ 2-ohm) amp

I got free wiring since my Dad's a mechanic, he did me a solid, and I spent like $20 bucks on the wood for the box... and my Dad decided to spent like $20 bucks for spray paint and spray painted the box. It doesn't look bad, at all. But, I'd rather carpet it... but too much work at this point.

wow, i wish i had a father that would do things related to audio with me. wait i wish i had a father that lived with me period.

Man I been there and messed with shitty setups, I used to think that my mtx 10s off a 400rms amp were loud as shit but it was my first system and anything woulda sounded good to me. But then I spent 100 on shitty hifonics that distorted when I played it at really low gain, sold the subs, amp was 1000 watts, but probly got me 400 rms lol. Monies worth I guess. then I buy this mtx 12 in a good box, but the low end sounded like muddy shit lol. Then I find a good deal on craigslist for two planet audio bb12dvc and a soundstream 600rms amp for 260, now that was a good deal to me, and they sounded good as hell, really good sq. Sold that for 300, and got an re motor, then finally got some money not too long ago for the recone and basket, I only paid 250 on a really bad *** woofer basically. Now i need the amp and all but still You get the idea, you learn more when you go through different systems and you find out whats best for your money.

Ha yup. I actually just got rid of the first setup I had, a sony amp, MTX 8500 12". And now have what's in my sig. I got away from the noob stage fast. Thank god.

EDIT: and looking at paypal now, about 1200 for everything in my sig. Except the car. Wow. It goes fast.

Hmm turns out the subs are shot. Hooked them up downstairs and they just come though as static for the most part. Blah. The amps seems to be ok though. The lights all turn on anyways.

So what should i get for my new subwoofers? I'm hoping i can get a pair of 12 inch subs for under 100 dollars off ebay or something.

Just looked at these but it seems like there has to be a catch somewhere. Either that or they must sound like crap.

Well those look pretty nice, so im actually leaning towards those right now. I'm hesitant to buy new subs until i know why these ones blew out though. Don't want to have my new ones go too.

So what would you guys say the problem was? I had my stereo on about 15 volume, and then i heard my subs crackle a little and my ligths all started fading with the bass hits. Then next thing i know i smell melted wires and my subs are shot. What could have causes this? Just shitty subs?

Also, if the lights on my amp turn on is it ok to assume it's in working shape?

I suggest you research this site a little more and save up for something good that will fit your every bass needs. Also check out the classifieds section of this forum for really good deals on quality car audio equipment. Just throwing it out there.

are you saying ok to my link? or your link? also..i really cant think of what it would be. possibly just a low voltage drop\major clipping which did it. or the possibility of since its a shitty sub yes.

Well the power and ground are connected pretty good. Everything else seems to be tight.

Also, this may be unrelated but i figured i might as well tell you guys. After i put my stereo in my engine gauges were below cold and my heat seemed to be working less good. I just assumed it was a coincidence and my thermostat blew out. Havn't driven it enough since they blew out, but can subs using excess power cause some of this to go wrong? I didn't have a capacitor installed.

Alright, not really sure what a low voltage drop is, but would it be safe to assume this same problem wouldn't happen if i got those kenwood subs in the future?
