Alright i bought 2 1000W sonly xplod subs, a sony xplod deck, and a 1000W sony xplod amp for 300 a while back and finally got it put in 2 weeks ago. Everything was fine until tonight. I was driving home at about 15 volume and all of a sudden my dash and headlights started flashing with the bass. Next thing i knew my sound coming from my subs started sounding like crap. I could smell smoke, so i shut the radio off and got home. I can't see any visable damage to the subs, but im afraid some wires got melted together or something? It probably didn't help that the guy i bought it off of had a 40A fuse in the 30A slot.... Can't believe they would blow out like this though, my volume was fairly low and i wasn't listening to rap :/ (it was actually Let Go by Red that did it). Any ideas whats wrong? Hopefully its cheap to fix, i spent all my money on this :'(

low voltage drop, killed yrrr amp probly..wooohooo go xplod! ..i tell ya it sure EXPLOADS lmao. also were u live at in WI

So you think its my amp? My subs smelled kinda funny though, cant really explain the smell . I would rather have it be the amp then the subs though since its a bit cheaper. I would like to play around with it more tonight but i gotta study for exams so im just looking for some ideas.

Also, i live in Waukeshau

as stated to you when you first bought the system you can take from your home audio and test your subs if they do work then its your amp, if they don't then its your subs, also check and see if your protect light is on or not...alsooo. AGAIN were u live in WI

Yeah guess ill have to test it out tomorrow after i get out. Not sure if im gonna bother replaceing the subs if they're blown. For 200 dollars you would think i would be able to turn my volume up to 15 (out of 40) without stuff breaking. It's not like the amp is to powerful for the subs, everything there comes in a kit.

Anyways, im done ranting, and im from Waukeshau //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Do yourself a favor and trash the subs and amp, read around this site and get something new when you are really sure you know what you want. ps, dont use explodes, ever.

Smell like burn wiring? Heh...

Word of advice don't play your music with subs during the winter months. I learned the hard way too with one of my subs. Blew it & my amp thanks to the cold + low voltage.

+ you're with Sony. Not the best brand..

Yeah hindsights 20/20 i guess but that doesn't really help me now. I'm working on car payments, insurance, phone bills, and saving for college so that 300 bucks i spent was pretty much it. Hoping i can salvage them. It sounded good while it lasted and i loved it.

So say my subs are blown, is there an easy way to test my amp to see if thats running?

sweet, i'm from the LaX area, also you can, check and see if the power or protect light is on, if so then you have part of your answer, then hook up another sub or speaker or even a DMM for that matter and see if you get anything. and for 300$ dude, you coulda got alot better lmao. you have heard "good" and "loved" it until you've heard many more systems lol. what you were pushing probly 300 watts RMS on a GOOD day lmao..sorry to be rude, but yes, as i stated and so did another person that sony xplod's seriously XPLOAD. lol

Yeah i know it isnt the best system but its all i really need. It actually helps that i drive an eclipse so its like the subs are right in my back seat. Anyways, i figure it would be an ok investment because the subs sell for around 250 at best buy, the amp 150ish, the deck 150ish, and the wiring kit 70 so for 300 it didn't seem to bad.

So should i be able to hook up a home speaker to the amp? Hell, if that works maybe ill keep that in my trunk until i get my tax return and can afford some new subs. Also, is that light you guys are talking about just a green light that should turn on on my amp?

I was looking at some Alpine subs for around 100 dollars on ebay. Maybe once my tax money comes back i can look at getting those. I don't want to invest to much more in this though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif gotta save what i can for college.

no no, hook up your SUBS to the home audio, if they work, it was the amp

It's not really a bad deal. 2-Subs + Amp + Deck for $300. The thing is, you get what you pay for, you know? XPlodes are really loud, so if you like that, then that's your thing. Personally, I think they sound like crap. But, that's me.

When I got my subs, everyone at work insulted me for it... 'cause this guy that works there has 2-12" Xplodes and the SPL is really high, but it sounds like crap. No offense, though. The guy LOVED his, personally, I didn't. He had stock mids, and extremely loud bass... and it didn't make the system sound good.

But, if you HAVE to replace it, go with a better brand of amp, like Alpine, or something of the sort. Try to steer away from Sony. It's not really a good quality brand, man.

Don't fret, we all live and learn, man. It's just a step. ^-^

EDIT:: Wanna hear somethign worse? I blew my $200 dollar mid-range woofers because as I was installing the wire, the speakers / tweeters were on my kitchen counter in the box, and my dog [Great Dane] got into it and ate ONE tweeter, so since I didn't wire in the tweeters, the impodence was all messed up and blew my $200 dollar speakers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

It's okay, I'm getting them replaced, plus upgraded Tweeters for $185 shipped //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif [Curtousy of DJDillion]

most likely it was, and that smell coulda been some mofsets blowing or caps...or coils burning.. in the amp... not just the sub. most likely your subs are fine, amp is crap.
