I agree about the myth thing, but what do you mean electricity has nothing to do with moving the mass? Electricity is exactly what is use to excite the coil and move the mass.electricity has nothing to do with physically moving the mass...
much like the myth of smaller woofers "reacting faster to the music"
Not true. The -3 dB frequency (F3) of an enclosure is proportional to Fs. Fs of a speaker is proportional to its cone size. 8's just wont have the same low end as a comparable larger sub.woofer size has nothing to do with how low it gets...
I think if given the choice, most people wouldn't filter out subsonic material, just because. Its only filtered if the system requires it. That inaudible shaking adds an amazing amount of depth to the deep bass notes, depth that would otherwise be missing. Subsonic filters filter out bass that would be too low for the system and would cause damage (usually for vented systems with high tuning).Larger woofers will play lower if in the proper box...but too low you'll have your vehicle doing like my CRX was doing when playing with my DD 9515's....I had a CD that played so low that you could see the car shaking but couldn't hear the BASS...I guess that is what subsonic and infrasonic filters do stop things like that from happening.....But it was still pretty cool anyways....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Any chance you know any songs that have this ultra-low frequency sound?Larger woofers will play lower if in the proper box...but too low you'll have your vehicle doing like my CRX was doing when playing with my DD 9515's....I had a CD that played so low that you could see the car shaking but couldn't hear the BASS...I guess that is what subsonic and infrasonic filters do stop things like that from happening.....But it was still pretty cool anyways....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
then the proper thing to say is woofers with a heavier moving mass are going to play lower. which is still false. yes, the mass does have alot to do with the Fs, but there are other factors in the mixIt does to a point, bigger woofers are going to be heavier, lower FS.
electricity is kind of the catalyst that creates the magnetic field that drives the moving mass. but the point of that post was just to point out that just because a woofer has lighter mass, doesent mean that its going to take less power to make it move neccesarily.I agree about the myth thing, but what do you mean electricity has nothing to do with moving the mass? Electricity is exactly what is use to excite the coil and move the mass.
thats kind of like saying that a car that weighs 1300 pounds is going to be faster than a car that weighs 2500 pounds. can you say for sure that the lighter car is faster? no, you cant, because it doesent factor in power, gearing, or any other vital information. as a generalization you can safely say that larger woofers are going to play lower, but is it true? absolutly not. size has nothing to do with how low a woofer plays, plain and simple. there are simply too many other factors to consider in this case to make a statement like that and for it to be correct. Not true. The -3 dB frequency (F3) of an enclosure is proportional to Fs. Fs of a speaker is proportional to its cone size. 8's just wont have the same low end as a comparable larger sub.
Who is that?hoss is right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
and whoever says 8s cant play low needs to talk to Mr. Loyd
Weird, I thought the point of what you posted was: "electricity has nothing to do with physically moving the mass...". I mean, it IS what you said. Anyway, I find it odd you would make a statement like this, so blatantly false, and yet act as if its all part of your master plan or something. For future reference, saying electricity has nothing to do with moving a speaker's mass.... is 100% incorrect. Not sure if this is you admitting that, or just trying to divert our attention away to something else you were saying also, but either way... yeah.electricity is kind of the catalyst that creates the magnetic field that drives the moving mass. but the point of that post was just to point out that just because a woofer has lighter mass, doesent mean that its going to take less power to make it move neccesarily.
Reality check time. First off, its not like saying a 1300 pound car will be faster, its like saying "Not true. The -3 dB frequency (F3) of an enclosure is proportional to Fs. Fs of a speaker is proportional to its cone size. 8's just wont have the same low end as a comparable larger sub." which is 100% true.thats kind of like saying that a car that weighs 1300 pounds is going to be faster than a car that weighs 2500 pounds. can you say for sure that the lighter car is faster? no, you cant, because it doesent factor in power, gearing, or any other vital information. as a generalization you can safely say that larger woofers are going to play lower, but is it true? absolutly not. size has nothing to do with how low a woofer plays, plain and simple. there are simply too many other factors to consider in this case to make a statement like that and for it to be correct.
Im also curious who you think said that. I presume you were directing it at me, as Im the only one here not praising the ground 8" subs walk on. If that IS directed at me, I would suggest you re-read my post(s), I never said anything of the sort.hoss is right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ok. cant educate someone not willing to listen //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gifWeird, I thought the point of what you posted was: "electricity has nothing to do with physically moving the mass...". Second reality check. This is what you said: "woofer size has nothing to do with how low it gets...". Now, you still insist on pushing this flawed logic at us by saying: "woofer size has nothing to do with how low it gets...". Uhm, sorry, but you are simply wrong.
Oh sure, you can (now) try to confuse the situation we are discussing by bring up enclosure sizes/alignments, comparing different sub models/brands, etc etc. But the reality is, you are trying to say woofer size has NOTHING to do with how low it gets, and that's simply false. I have to admit Im confused while you are still holding onto this arguement, even after seemingly looking up what Fs is.
Keep trying, maybe you will convince someone who doesn't know any better, with your car parallels and your attempts to muddy the issue. But the fact is, cone size definitely plays a role in its low end extension/output.

wrong you dumbass!!Owner of that wall i posted... played down to 27hz effectively if i remember correctly
You are trying to educate me here? LMAO. Knock yourself out hoss, go ahead, dispute what Im telling you... instead of this BS 'oh well I tried to teach you' nonsense.ok. cant educate someone not willing to listen //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
so ill just keep letting you think that. the facts are out there, if you decide to take another look.
