Are 8's the new 12's?

I can remember when the sub to get was a 12. Now I know that a good number of people on here have 15's and up but I'm wondering for us less than worried about being super loud, have 8's turned into the new 12?

Maybe its just the price making them appealing. I have some Re 8's that I have never even plugged in. Just got them becaues they were so cheap. I just don't see how a pair of 8's could really give the deep bass that is needed for high quality sound.

Of course, I've never tried it so maybe I am not giving them the credit they deserve.

Anyone know the top SPL score for an 8 setup? I'm not really into SPL but wouldn't mind knowing how loud they can get. Say for like a pair of 8's?

These 4 DD 1008a's did a street beat score of 147+ and a outlaw score of 150+ at ark blast this past summer...They hit lower and are louder than anyones 15's I've ever heard that run daily....

Yea but I bet those little woofers probably had some serious power going to them, Im not saying they couldnt take it but Im sure they had plenty of amp behind them. Im guessing ported for spl. I have a pair of Image Dynamics ID8's Im dyin to try, Ive heard they sound really nice and get very loud for being 8's.

pssh. please. twelves cant keep up with 8"s. new technology in loudspeakers (lol) has allowed 8"s to replace 12"s. they just arent the same, physically.
