i have 1 type x and a ALPINE MRP-M1000 1000 Watt MONO Amplifier. i just bought and there is a smell coming form the sub. almost smells like its burning what could this be?

have u even givin it any playing time?were they brand new in box or have they been used... could be burnt voice coils

yea i bought them used. and about a day after i started to smell something funny from the sub.

well... u must have pushed its limits... what were u powering it with and what was the gain setting at on ur amp? Did you hear it distorting? chill out on that thing bro, sounds like burning voice coils. its a well made sub so it takes a lot of work on ur part to make that happen

my friend has a type x and i smell the same smell from the sub after playing a while. i think all alpine subs just "stink" if you get what i mean lol

it may be in the wrong box, that amp u have is not too much power for it, but def. sounds like u are burning it up somehow..thats a shame because that is an awesome setup....

thx for all the replies ill chill out but i wasnt playing it that hard. it was for about 12 hours and i could smell it through the port on the box. doesnt really smell like burning just smells bad.
