Hey guys,

going to look at my first apartment tomorow at 3:30 tomorow afternoon and I'd actually never rented an apartment or anything, is there any questions I should ask while I'm there?

right now I'm thinking

1. Are utilities included?

2. Parking On or off streeet?

3. Neighbors?

That was just quick but those are just off the top of my head...

Thanks

I always make sure and ask if it is cool to bring back hookers to the place, explain to them that you do not pick up trashy street walking hookers and only look for companionship of classy craigslist girls offing erotic services. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

To me the biggest things that I always had to have were.

1: Landlord can't live there, most are assholes. Unless you are a very quiet person you will not like this.

2: Who lives above you (if anyone) and beside you. Try to find out (without asking directly) if they have kids. Kids above you is an auto no-go for me

3: My main issue was always being able to toke, you don't want any place that has heat/ac vents that connect to each other as well as not waiting the landlord living there. I always looked for something with electric heat when I could which means there is no real connection between you and the rest of the house (though it is not 100%)

The apartment above my g/f's has hardwood floors. The people that used to live there had a kid with one of those roller things, sounded like someone was bowling up there...it sucked *******.

Kids above means death.
Nothing worse than some white trash brat running around and jumping off shit at 6am on a Saturday.
x2

i lived in a middle floor apartment. kid's up stair's... like six of em.. and young people down stairs constantly playing music.. LOUD..

it sucked when you wanted to come home and relax. and as soon as you walk in the aprtment building the kids up stairs are playing ****in dance dance revolution and the people downstairs are haveing a rave..

i hated it, and if you asked the people upstairs to keep there kids in check it only would get worse... it sucked..

new home owner for the win!

$500 for a 1 bedroom? jesus christ, cheapest they get in towson is $800ish. walking distance to campus will run you a little bit more.

btw, my fake says i'm from providence. cool place i guess?

we had coverd parking outside, and i had my car broken into twice. didnt get anything cause of my alarm.

roomate's car got broken into and they stole his radio.

but every other day you step out side and notice someone else's car had been broken into.

another story about our apartment.. anything that went wrong. running faucet's. leaky sinks. leaky cealing's took forever for maitnence to fix..

one day our door handle was jammed, and we couldent get in our apartment. called the land lord said it would take a day or to to fix. i ended up kicking down the door breaking the door handle off..

i hated liveing there...

Biggest problem my brother ever had at apartments was black people. No joke, I am not trying to stir up anything at all.

He had black girls who lived above him, and they routinely blasted loud music and hollered to each other. (We know black girls are naturally louder). He continually asked them to keep it quiet and they never complied. So he finally started blasting his music in return and all hell broke lose. The girls came down to his apartment, raising hell. He told them if they'd keep their music/voices down, he would too. They went at it till the end of the school year when the girls moved out.

Another problem was black guys blasting their music late at night during hunting season while my brother was trying to sleep. Cops never would do anything about it, and my brother ended up getting into a brawl with them over it.

In conclusion, you may want to check on the status of the negro community in this area.

Hope I could help.

Lots of things to consider:
Noise regulations

Parking regulations

Pet regulations

What's included/excluded in the cost of your rent

Cost of renter's insurance (if you have valuables, you might want to look into it)

Laundry (in suite ? shared ? if shared, cost and operational times ?)

Ease of access

Fire prevention/emergency routes (fire alarms, sprinklers, escape ladders, distance to stairwell, etc.)

Quality of insulation (no one wants to hear their neighbours plus quality insulation = lower heating bills if you have to pay for heat)

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS do a THOROUGH WRITTEN INSPECTION WITH YOUR LANDLORD BEFORE SIGNING ANYTHING !!!

Luxuries (games room ? exercise room ? pool ?)

Rent-to-own available ?

Included appliances ?

Size/layout suitable for your needs ?

Handyman always readily available including weekends and nights ?

Late rent penalties ?

I'm sure there are other questions you should ask, but that's all I can think of at the moment ...
